Owner description: From the time man first took flight in the early 1900s to the recent shuttle missions into space, South Central Kentucky has played a significant role in the history of aviation. One of the first pilots to fly in combat claimed ties to Bowling Green, as did a World War I flying ace, a pioneer instructor pilot, a Vietnam war hero, Commanders of the famed Air Force Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels, the Commander/Pilot of "Marine One", the presidential helicopter unit and the Mission Commander for the space shuttle Atlantis. These aviators - and their ties to South Central Kentucky - deserve to be recognized and celebrated so that future generations might be made aware of and motivated by their extraordinary achievements. This is the mission of Aviation Heritage Park.

Really enjoyed seeing the aricraft and stories of the pilots from Kentucky. The grounds are lovely and our dog thoroughly enjoyed running around.

Glad you enjoyed your visit. Be sure to come back the first week of October 2014 for the installation of the T-38 Talon, flown by local astronaut Terry Wilcutt and other astronauts including Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, and Alan Shepard. A dedication is planned at the park October 18. Hope to see you there!

I have been to many aircraft exhibits, but this one is superb! Each of the 4 birds on display has been beautifully restored, and I was able to walk around each of them and study them closely. The reader boards provide excellent reference info, and tell how each aircraft is linked to a local aviator.

And it is totally FREE! Easy to get to, family friendly, a must see for aviation buffs.

There are four military aircraft that you can view, up-close without any barriers holding you back. My kids really enjoyed being able to sit under the aircraft and view all the rivets, bays, wings, etc.

My hubby is the aviation enthusiast, so he would have liked to have had more planes in the park. The ones that were there he took many pictures of as he enjoyed seeing those.

We were staying at Nolin Lake and enjoying all middle KY has to offer and made this part of our trip to Bowling Green with our young children before going to Splash Town, the boy loves xbox war games and enjoyed the planes, our little girl not so much. Worth the visit!
