I spent two nights here in late October and I just loved it. Berea is fantastic...a beautiful little town to walk around and there are a lot of great shops with various unique, handcrafted items. The people here are so, so friendly and helpful.
The hotel is absolutely lovely and charming. I had a room with a queen bed, which was fine since I was traveling alone. Had I been with someone, the room would have been too small...both the bedroom and the bathroom. The temperature control did not work very well; I like a cold room and I could not adjust it below 67. I opened the windows, however, and turned on the ceiling fan so the room got to a comfortable temperature that way. I loved the complimentary bottled water in the room and the Keurig coffeemaker...very nice! There was some hallway noise, which I think is to be expected given the nature of the building. I sleep with ear plugs when I travel anyways, so it didn't bother me. There were some long stray hairs in the bathroom...very noticeable since everything is white...which (obviously) isn't a good thing, but I don't go nuts about it like some people.
I had dinner in the hotel restaurant both evenings and the food was very good, although not inexpensive. My dinners were $50-60 each night (including a generous tip) which, considering there is no alcohol and this is Berea, KY, I thought was a bit pricey. The service can be a bit spotty but the restaurant was very busy both nights I was there and the students work really hard and do their best so it was no real issue for me.
Overall, the service at the hotel was wonderful.
One suggestion I do have, however, is replacement of the bedspreads. The rooms are nicely decorated but the bedspreads are sort of awful...polyester, scratchy, not warm, with lots of pilling...they reminded me of a Howard Johnson's bedspread from perhaps twenty years ago. A simple cotton bedspread or comforter (or even a blanket or throw) would be much better. A duvet with a washable cover would be great.
I will definitely return to Berea and stay and dine here again!
