My new rule for traveling anywhere is to never prepay. If a place requires prepayment, be very skeptical of the quality of the place!
The conditions at the Ramada Barstown were absolutely horrible. The beds are hard, broken down, and the pllows looked like they were so thin as to be useless. Due to the stale stench of cigarettes in what was supposed to be a non-smoking room and the incredibly noxious fumes from the carpeting, I didn't get far enough to inspect the cleanliness of bathroom, sheets, or the carpeting much less try their breakfast!
Within minutes of entering either of the two rooms we tried, our eyes, noses, and throats were burning and our heads were aching from the fumes. Several other guests were trying to make the best of the situation by leaving their room doors open. However, all of us who'd checked in 15 minutes earlier checked out. The night clerk was accommodating in that he immediately called the manager who refused any assistance or relief.
Turns out htis is a very old place that was substandard before they added a brick facade to it to make it look like something it isn't.
Had to drive 40 miles into Louisville at 11 p.m.to find other accommodations. The effects of a few minutes in the dangerously noxious room stayed with us for hours!
Then, comes the tribulations of trying to get my card credited after being required to prepay for two nights through Travelocity. The sleazey manager, Armin, lied to Travelocity and claimed that we'd stayed the two nights. Then, he lied to me and claimed that he doesn't charge the card, that Travelocity does and then issues a check. Travelocity closed the loop on that when they came back to me and said that the guy couldn't reverse the authorization until Monday becuase the banks are closed ont he weekend. Huh!? I'm a business owner with a merchant account. You can manage all credit card transactions any day of the week! So,then Travelocity wants me to call back on Monday...again... to follow up.
So far, I've spent nearly three hours and massive aggravation to get a credit on my card, spoken to Travelocity several times, the credit card company, and the BBB.
I've stayed at cheap hotels all over the world that are clean, quiet, and well run. this is not one of them! If this is the only place to stay, keep going and stay someplace else! If the poisonous fumes from the carpeting don't make you ill, then the poor treatment from the manager will!
