“Nice stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013 via mobile

The breakfast was good which had eggs, waffles, sausage and the norm. We stayed there for the bourbon festival. The room was cramped with chair stuck right next to the ac and table next to it. We had a refrigerator and microwave. The bed was great. The bathroom was tiny. My husband is over six feet tall and the shower head was a little to low for him.

We always stay here when we visit Bardstown. The staff is very friendly and the grounds are well kept. It is convenient to everything and you can walk to town if you want. The pool is nice in the summertime. The rooms are clean and it is generally quiet and easy to get to sleep.

Can't do a review of the General Nelson without emphasizing the awesome employees that they have! From the front desk to housekeeping the staff were courteous and very efficient! The hotel is a perfect location for the KY Bourbon Festival...walking distance to all the "tent" events. If you don't like cigar smoke, you need to request a room AWAY from the covered "porch" area in the front as it is a great gathering place for guests to sip some bourbon and share a cigar, but the smell does get into the room even with the door closed if you are located at the front of the motel. The rooms were clean and everything worked. Linens were soft and clean. Breakfast was very good and specialty tea is available in the front office. We used the Carriage House room for 3 special events and it is a great facilty for groups that also plan to serve food. Nice place and we would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Front of motel has a good bit of road noise and smoke from people enjoying their cigars (with bourbo...

This motel has a little age on it, but is very well maintained, and is in an excellent location, within walking distance of the middle of town. Wife and I spent 3 nights here, and I have no complaints. It is an older motel with outside entrances (which I like). Everything was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was very good in a larger than normal breakfast room. They also make fresh popcorn every evening which is free for the asking in the office. That was a nice touch.

The staff was small town friendly and helpful. The owner just happened to be staying next to us and he helped with our door which was stuck. He identified himself as part of the staff but found out later that he was the owner. The front desk staff was helpful when we needed to stay an additional night. The breakfast had REAL scrambled eggs and other small touches which were very thoughtful. Great place.

We have stayed in many Best Westerns and this one is not the best. Arrived late at night and complained that the room we had been given was damp and smelled musty (or doggy). We were just advised that it was OK. We bought an air freshner and this seemed to solve half the problem.
On the good side, the breakfast was OK, lots of it. We were offered a variety of room service, whether we wanted a full service every day or just the towels changed. the pool area is very nice and the staff really friendly.
We also notice that dogs were welcomed (not adverse to that), but they seem to be on the beds in the rooms (not good) if you are not a dog lover.
Another plus, it is in easy walking distance of Bardstown which is a really nice town - not a lot to do, but if you are doing the bourbon trail, we went to 2 within the Bardstown area.
On the whole, only reasonable/average for the price. Could do better.

Room Tip: Don't choose 100, it is damp and smelly!

Location was excellent for where we wanted to be to stops on the Bourban & Craft trails. Our greeting upon arrival was very nice with a follow up call later to our room. Little noise for us on the front side corner. Breakfast was just okay. We only decided to have it the first morning. We also liked the location & that we could walk to the town center & shops. We would consider staying here again.
