Owner description: The Stephen Foster Story is a broadway-style show about the life of America's first composer, Stephen Collins Foster. The performance takes place in My Old Kentucky Home State Park at the J. Dan Talbot Amphitheatre. The grounds on which the theatre lies once belonged to the Rowan family, who were cousins of Stephen Foster, and is home to Federal Hill, the plantation house that inspired the state song. Some of Foster's biggest hits such as Oh Susannah, Camptown Races, Suwannee River, & My Old Kentucky Home help to tell the tale of his struggle to become the first true composer this country knows, and also to find love among the hardships.

It was very hot out that night, still in the 90's, I don't know how they did it in those costumes, but the cast was amazing! Great show!

We traveled two hours for an anniversary getaway. Our first night there we took in this musical, which as a native Kentuckian, I felt it was my duty. Lol. It was an outdoor theatre but the sound system was fabulous! The voices were outstanding, the acting was superb, the costumes were gorgeous, and the way they manipulated sets was amazing. We went on a Tuesday evening and it was not crowded. We bought our tickets on arrival. They have a small preferred seating section, but we just bought regular seats and were quite happy with them. I would definitely encourage everyone to see the musical at least once.

Saw this musical on our honeymoon 44 years ago and decided to stop on our way to Michigan to see the matinee on a Saturday. The music and singing was as good as we remembered it. The costumes were colorful and the play was well staged; indoors so it was also comfortable. Well worth the price of admission and a great way to break up our long drive.

Very good performance. The whole family enjoyed it from age 10 to 80.

If you are in Bardstown and have time to spare, make sure you put this on the list of things to do. The people who work here are great and make you feel very welcome. Also you if you can during the summer months they have a 2nd show that is kid themed. Last year was Wizard of Oz, this year Dr, Suess. Both were wonderful!
