We were in Bardstown for 3 days and asked locals where we should have dinner. Cafe Primo was mentioned as the "new" but really good place to go. We went there and loved it! The food is mostly Italian and the menu choices not huge but enough for a wide variety of choices. We had the Mediterranean chicken pasta and tasted the lasagna. Both were excellent. Like the other two restaurants we dined at, Cafe Primo is family run with Grandma doing the cooking. Unlike Mamie's and Kurtzs, Cafe Primo goes beyond the typical local family restaurant food quality and equals the special character of a location with history and helpful wait staff. When you go be sure to order the wonderful tiramisu for dessert. Cafe Primo is on Third St in the midst of Bardstown's beautiful downtown.

Unique Third St. (close to courthouse circle) order pizza from the menu or make one up(you have to ask, but no problem) Pasta's and specials very tasty. Full Bar. No place to go if in a hurry or with squirmy youngsters, service more european (expect to relax and enjoy your dinner.

Since 1979 we have traveled Bardstown Rd (US 31E) from our home in Louisville, KY to our home at Barren River Lake, In Barren Co., KY. We have eaten at many Restaurants in Bardstown, KY, one of our favorites beings Kurtz's. On Wednesday, October 2, 2013, on our return trip from Barren, we decided that we wanted Italian. We thought that we would go to Carabas or Macaroni Grill in Louisville. We decided, however to stop at Mammy's (very good but not pasta) and parked on the street. We noticed a sign, Cafe Primo, and as they had their menu posted on the window we looked and saw that it was Italian. We had never noticed the restaurant before butsaid we would give it a try. It turned out to be one of the best dining decisions we have ever made. We made our way through the main dining room to the attractive outdoor patio. We were seated and shortly our server, Beverley (Bev), greeted us. What a lovely and friendly person, Bev is. We were offered drinks and after the drinks were served we ordered their Insalata Rustica. Very fresh and wonderful greens with just the right amount of extra virgin oiive oil and vinegar. My wife ordered the Pasta Romano (Shrimp with lemon parmasan sauce, spinach, mushroom, prosciutto over angel hair pasta). I ordered the Pepperoni Classico Pizza (thin crust and wonderful). Bev had told us that all of the dishes are made to order. The Chef is the restaurant owner and a nicer person you will never meet. She and her Husband are Bosnian immigrants and have been in the United States for 19 years. To say that the food was served hot, and was beyond delicious is virtually the understatement of the year. It was SPECTACULAR. The meal was completed with a shared serving of chocolate Gelato, which was equally delicious. We passed by the kitchen when leaving and my wife told the Chef how delighted we were with dinner and every thing about our experience at Cafe Primo. Sara & Bob Hastings, Louisville, KY

i have been to cafe primo twice now-once for lunch & once for dinner. both times there was hardly anyone else there, but i sure hope this place lasts! the establishment is quaint & there is a lovely outside seating area. our service was wonderful, (but we were one of only 2 or 3 tables the waitress had each time.) the lasagna was FANTASTIC. my husband had the penne calabrian & all but licked the plate clean. we will be going back frequently! my only complaint is that i have tried to find a phone number in every way i can think of & cannot find one. which would make it impossible to make a reservation or to call in a carry out order. i would have ordered carry out from there tonight, but couldn't because there isn't a number listed.
