We think this place is a great food stop in Bardstown. The décor reminded us of a similar diner we have back in our home state. It is very welcoming and there's enough going on in there, it keeps our 4 & 6 year olds occupied looking around. The service was fast and the waitress was very friendly and when asked her opinion between two burgers, she was very open with sharing which one she loves to order for herself. She also gave us suggestions on which desserts are most popular. All the food was great and we will for sure be back!

I think the thing I like most about Mammy's is the interesting decorations and random knick-knacks all around (no joke, there was a cupboard hole next to my chair that had a fake chicken, nest, and a rooster...I thought it was funny). The atmosphere is really relaxed, and the service is great. Our orders were taken promptly, and food served quickly.

We first visited Mammy's last year on vacation, and I have to say that the fried bologna sandwich is excellent. Really good comfort food. This time, my husband and I both ordered burgers. His was the bourbon barbecue, and mine was the fried green tomato. The sauce on his burger was unbelievable. You can buy jars of it but unfortunately, they were sold out that afternoon (it sells really quickly, but a plus is that you can call ahead to reserve a jar).

We arrived at 6:10 PM to find the street outside Mammy's closed for an outdoor concert, and people setting up their chairs in the street in front of the stage, so we weren't surprised there was a wait for a table. There was a girl at a table set up outside the door taking names and selling beer. She told us the wait would be 30 to 40 minutes. We told her we wanted to be done by 8:00 PM because we had tickets for the Stephen Foster play at 8:30 and we wanted to get to the ampitheatre early. She said it shouldn't take longer, but if it did, to come back to the table and she would use her phone to call our order into the kitchen. Our name was called at 6:50 PM, as we were getting ready to ask her to phone our order in, so it did take 40 minutes to get seated. We then waited 10 minutes for a server. While we waited, we heard a server question people sitting down at the table behind us if their name had been called or if they had just come in and sat down; she said there was no communication between the staff outside and the staff inside, and they didn't know what was going on. At 7:00 PM a server finally showed up to take our drink order, and I told her we would like to go ahead and order as we wanted to leave by 8:00 PM to get to the play. She said the kitchen was behind and there would be a 45 minute wait to get a grilled cheese and a hamburger. Still, she said we would be able to make the play, and went to ring in our order. My husband pointed out that even if we had our food by 7:45 PM, which he doubted given the service so far, we would have 15 minutes to eat, then get and pay our bill. A table next to us had had to wait to pay their bill. He flagged down the server who had stopped at the table next to ours to ask her to have our order cancelled. That table, which had also had a long wait for the server to show up, told her they didn't have another 45 minutes to wait either, and they also left before getting their drinks. I understand that it was a Saturday evening of a holiday weekend and options are limited in Bardstown, but if the staff had said there was a 30 to 40 minute wait for a table AND another 45 minute wait for food to be served, we would have gone elsewhere instead of wasting our time. We drove by again the next morning on our way to Federal Hill, and although there was no one waiting outside, we didn't even bother going in for breakfast as our experience the evening before had soured us on Mammy's Kitchen. We waited until we got to Louisville later that morning and had breakfast at Toast on Market.

We came to Bardstown during the 4th of July weekend where everything downtown was pretty well closed. We stepped inside and it was crowded. No one greeted us. Eventually a waitress acknowledged us and took our names. Grateful that Mammy's was open, we excitedly waited outside on a bench to be sat and eat the local food. We both ordered rib eyes cooked medium well with onion straws, baked potato and salad. The salad came with three stale saltine crackers on our plate. The salad was good. We ordered the sampler appetizer and the only thing hot and good was the chicken tenders. My husband's rib eye was slightly under cooked but he "dealt with it" but mine was rare on the inside. There was no seasoning at all on the steaks. We were very disappointed with this meal.
