Rumah Mertua Boutique Hotel & Garden Restaurant & Spa

Rumah mertua was recommended by some of our friends and family. And I must say it was the best decision to book the hotel .

We arrived very late because of the flight delay and the workers were still awake and welcome us with a big smile. First step at the reception hall, you just feel like,"home sweet home".

The check-in process was very efficient. They brought us to our room directly so that we can just chill and settle in while they register us.

The whole staffs were very nice and friendly. They are so genuine (not like Balinese) and really willing to help you with everything without expecting any big tip!!

The next morning we had breakfast at the restaurant. You can still hear the bird lullaby and the fresh air.

We had dinner on our last night and the food was delicious!! They have their own Sangria which was really delish too!! Javanese Sangria :p

It was just too bad that we didn't have the chance to use the swimming pool and the spa. We were only there for 2 nights. Surely will stay longer for our next trip.

It feels so great to go back home and knowing there is still a place in Indnesia that can give you the top service and genuine smile on every workers' face. Thumbs up for Rumah Mertua!

It was our first visit to Yogya (besides my wife) and we choose Rumah Mertua as my wife spent her time browsing and making plans for our visit to Yogya, and she looked up at the tripadvisor and found some good comments re this nice place.

We decided to booked our stay at Rumah Mertua and discovered that the place is much nicer in reality than described by some visitors.

It is a typical Javanese style hostel (11 rooms), in which my wife and I considered as a boutique hotel. The service, cleanliness, comfort is excellent and in a very quite resting and peaceful housing area.

Food was also good, specially for breakfast, many choices.

Fully recommended for families who wishes to stay away from the Malioboro area, in a quite but not easy access to the main road and places to dine.

I brought my old folks to Yogya for a quick long weekend holiday. I was so pleased I managed to book Rumah Mertua less than a month into our stay. We took the Family room meant for 4 which was right next to the restaurant. We could hear muffled chattering of diners but it wasn't too much. The room was simply designed, although imho, the toilet could be better. (It reminded me of the public showers at swimming pools). The swimming pool was quite small, but clean and great for a quick dip after a long day of walking.

The service of the staffs were fantastic - they were happy to oblige at all our requests. When we told them we were going for the sunrise tour and had to leave at like 4am, they offered to prepare our breakfast for us still! So we rose up to a simple American breakfast and perk me up coffee at the unearthly hour!

We had some requests to book us in for restaurants and got us our taxis when we needed, and agreed to print out our e-tickets for the return trip (because I misplaced mine). We had dinner on our first night of arrival - it wasn't too bad, but forgettable.

Overall a very, very splendid experience - one you would expect to pay a more for. I will recommend anyone who is going to Yogya to stay here.

Stayed in Rumah Mertua(translated House of Parents in Law) a small boutique hotel near Hyatt Yogyakarta. Its one hotel that treats you like a visitor in their family home. Instead of a telephone call or a buzzer to wake you up, they will knock at your door if you are requesting for a wake up call and they will even bring you breakfast in bed. You have at your disposal a driver (of course you have to pay) and a Javanese massage therapist, just tell them where you want to go and visit or if you want to shop or have a massage and they will arrange for you at a reaonable price. I say its reasonable since their room rates are S$45/day and the room is quite spacious and comfortable.

I stayed in Rumah Mertua for my holiday with my family. We rented 2 bed rooms - 1 standard and 1 superior. The standard room we got was located nearby the resto, facing the garden; while the superior room was at the back. The standard room was ok, it's clean and tidy; with 14" TV and small bathroom with shower. Our complaint at that time was for the air conditioner that was not cool enough. The superior room, on the other hand, is a total satisfaction. It seems that it's on the extended part of the hotel, thus everything's new and more modern. Apart from its cleanliness, the interior is nicer and the TV is bigger. The bathroom - shower - is also more spacious. We even got our own patio with lazy bed.

The hotel has a restaurant and a swimming pool. Once we're arrived, we're served with tea/coffee and snacks. The breakfast menu was also ok. Try having breakfast by the pool, it was nice :) We tried having dinner once on the resto; the menu is quite variative, but a bit pricy. For the pool, it's very nice. It has no area for children in the pool - depth around 1.5m, so better accompany small children while they're around the pool.

The hotel location is about 20min away from city center, about 40k rupiah by taxi.

Overall, it was a nice stay. Only we experienced bad thing at the end: my mom's long trousers was missing on the last day; it was put inside the drawers. We talked to the staffs but till it cannot be found :( Tips: put everything inside your bag and lock it!

Thank you everyone at Rumah Mertua for making our 6 nights stay a memorable one. Your courteous service and clean surroundings is worth a 5-star rating. The quiet surroundings and the soft gamelan music makes Rumah Mertua an ideal place for relaxation. Best of all is the room-rate: what we pay for makes up for all the things that other 5-star hotels provide but was not provided at Rumah Mertua. We will definitely stay at Rumah Mertua again if and when we come back to Djogja and we will definitely recommend Rumah Mertua to all our friends and relatives.
