“Beautiful Boutique Hotel”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Myself and my boyfriend visited this hotel on our trip around Indonesia on recommendation through Trip Advisor. We arranged for one of the hotel staff to collect us from the airport and the journey took approximately 20 minutes in busy traffic, which is not far at all! The hotel is situated out of the hustle and bustle, tucked away in a quite village, which was ideal after 20 hours of traveling. The staff at the hotel were extremely accommodating and friendly, which is always a bonus. The rooms were lovely, clean and comfy.

The highlight of this hotel was the food. We sat down around 4pm for afternoon tea/javanese coffee and sweet treats. We then went back to the dining area for a 10 dish banquet which cost us no more than £15! This gave us an insight into really Javanese cuisine. Highly recommend.

We organized a day trip through the hotel with one of their drivers. The driver was extremely informative and took us on a tour around Borobudur, Prambanan and Sultan's Palace. Again, I would highly recommend spending at least one day visiting each place.

I would defiantly recommend staying here and I would certainly go back again.

Stayed here for 4 nights as so good reviews were left in tripadvisor.First stayed in standard room for 35usd at the very back. Bed was good, shower ok, but soundproof could be better - you could hear neighbours opening and closing doors. Very clean, mini bar. Last night did not have booking but due to cancelled flight had to find room and the only room was delux near pool - supre You pay 2x as much and you get 2x much! Its worth, but for 65usd. Breakfast excellent, restaurant really good. Very relaxing atmosphere and good pool. Service is just excellent - help You with everything You need. Just after staying in Bali and Lombok discovered that this place was quite pricy - loundry is priced by piece not kg as elsewhere (so for some 3kg left 17usd), beer 5usd - like in highend restaurant and dinner as well. Rented a car with dirver for 65usd for whole day - Borobudur, Prambanan and Sultan palace - great driver & tour - recommend. There ia a list with massage and treatment service - may be in Java it is more expensive that Bali, average prive about 30usd for 1h massage. So perfect if Your budget meets deluxe room and restaurant prices as service is EXCELLENT. wifi worked at pool, but at the back not. Dot stay at room at the very restaurant, it is really like in very center - everyone is passing by in and out.

Room Tip: better choose delux, better sounproof, huge room, good wifi!

Food was awesome. They offer free-flowing Javanese coffee, which is quite strong and has nutty texture. Hospitable staff took care of our inquiries and needs during our stay. Rooms were great except for the AC - our room's temp didn't drop until after a 30 minutes. Make sure to bring anti-mosquito lotion. They offer coach tours to Burubodur and Prambanan, which are worth the money bec of the comfortable car & friendly drivers.

Room Tip: If you want a little more privacy, try to book the rooms at the back of the hotel. Passing by the po...

We booked on line from UK and booked 3 night 4 day package which is everything the web site promises. We actually only did one trip out on the second day as the first day of 3 venues-sultans palace, Merapi volcano and borobodur temple was exhausting. The trips out do not include entrance fees but these do not break the bank and help to preserve and construct the attractions. I wouldn't recommend Sultans Palace but we were taken to a Batik artist shop and shown how they do Batik which was interesting this was while we waited for the Palace to open. A driver from the hotel picked us up at the airport and all the drivers were excellent and were able to translate for us on our trips. The meals were good but after the 3 nights we had probably had what we fancied off the menu. Breakfast was either American breakfast or Indonesian but the omelettes were good. The pool area is idyllic and the gardens are beautifully kept. The staff are very attentive and helpful. The rooms if you pay the higher room fee are excellent. Rooms 1,2,3 and 4 are very close to the kitchen and dining room and I would imagine they could be noisy but we had rooms 5,6 and 7 and these were large double rooms, excellent a/c, very good shower rooms and lots of storage, there is also a quick turn around laundry service. The larger rooms also have a front terrace with table and chairs which are very private due to the clever planting of large plants. This is an extremely clean and well run small guest house only 20 minutes from the airport. I would recommend it and I would return.

Room Tip: Most expensive rooms are best 5, 6, 7 and 8

I had a few times here since 12 years ago. and all the facilities are getting better and better until now. but tradition, hospitality and comfort is still the same. This is the Rumah Mertua, a reflection of the real Jogja. Run by talented people but humble.

I loved Rumah Mertua. It's pretty much seems like a big compound that was converted from a house to a quaint, charming B&B. The staff was lovely, and you could sit by the pool all day and sip great mango shakes, tea and coffee.

I don't think it's too far from anything, really. If you don't mind the bit of time you have to give to get to some of the tourist spots, then this spot should be okay for you. It's a great, simple escape from the hustle and bustle!

If you want to visit Yogyakarta, it is better to book another hotel. Rumah Mertua is located a 40 minutes drive from the city. The rooms are clean, but noisy. Since breakfast is served outside you can hear people eating, laughing etc in the early morning and late evening. After 9 AM there are frequent power cuts in this village. The hotel has no generator. All services are expensive : food, drinks, laundry. Staff is very nice. The pool and garden are nice. The bathroom is for dwarfs. Conclusion : there are 1001 better places to stay if you want to visit Yogyakarta.
