We stayed for 3 nights in early Aug, and was impressed with the building..aesthetically very pleasing..it's modern Javanese look and feel gives it that unique local character.

Requested for a room right in front of the pool and what a beautiful sight to open your doors to! We're not particularly demanding and service was good. The breakfast buffet was more than reasonable for a hotel of this price range, & there's even wifi in the lobby (not sure if it's free as we didn't use it).
The rooms were clean & it was very quiet during our stay, something we appreciate, as we were to really relax amidst such peacefulness. My only gripe wld be the bed which creaked horribly (something which we forgot to highlight to the front desk..), but this was a minor inconvenience and overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

Quiet satisfied with the service, but the receptionist very lack knowledge of tourist attraction around the city. In over all, this place would be a recommended place if you keen to have cozy hide out with rice fields around. Room, bed, bathroom are very clean, also taste the great fried rice for breakfast. For some people it maybe quite far from the central of the city, but they surely can find you a cab in 10 minutes with very reasonable fare. I only pay around Rp 30,000 to get to Malioboro (US $ 3).
Please note for the Beauty Salon just across this place, they gave a very great body massage with only US $4.5.

Reservation was done by phone, and was straight-forward and quick. I choose the best room available, which is Presidential Suite - they named it. The room is big enough for us. It has 21" television, aircon is good, water-heater is good.
The swimming pool is the main attraction to my daughter. She likes it very much.
There are many good restaurants near the hotel. One of them I like very much is "Jimbaran Resto". It has Bali-style architecture, the food is mainly barbeque fish. And taste very delicious.
This hotel also has free hot-spot area, but I didn't have time to try it. The staff was very friendly and helpful to us.

We stayed at Rumah Palagan for 3 nights following the good reviews on this web site.

Positive:
- still new (operational for only 15 months in March 2009), so things still work (doors, locks, AC...) and the place is clean (bathroom...)
- comparably large pool
- quite environment, surrounded by a few warungs / restorants, houses and rice fields
- free Wi-Fi hotspot in the lobby plus laptop which can be used by guests
- friendly staff, very helpful. The owner is friendly too.
- musical instruments available at no charge (keyboard, guitar)
- comparably large breakfast buffet. The foods vary daily.
- 1 free airport or train station transfer (either pick-up or drop-off)

Negative:
- about 20 minutes by car / taxi to Malioboro. Taxi will run around IDR 35'000 (March 2009) one way
- far to the north off the center of Jogja - however, this also means shorter driving time to the sights in the north such as Borobudur or Prambanan

We looked at several places near Malioboro and in the south of Kraton, but none could really compare to the coziness of Rumah Palagan. The places near Malioboro were too narrow and dark for our taste and the places in the Kraton area were old and thus mostly run down.

If you are looking for a cozy, quiet, clean and fairly new place, check the Rumah Palagan.

If the management finds a good solution for the transportation dilemma to the center if Jogja, then this place will also be interesting for those who don't have their own cars.

We stayed in Delux room, published rate is IDR 350'000 (incl. breakfast for 2 and taxes). Paying by credit card (specific company), we got 15% discount. So check for discounts before booking.

Well, originally, me and my friends wanted to stay at Rumah Mertua but stumbled upon Rumah Palagan and read the reviews. We were intrigued and decided to check it out.

First, the place is small and cozy but the rooms are spacious though. We were served its welcome drink, some delicious ginger and herbal tea. The property is clean, and our rooms were facing the pool. Deco is minimalist, neat and clean. Staffs are friendly and very helpful.

I find the place impressive for the services we got as the rates are quite cheap. Breakfasts are provided, mostly carbs. Not many choices available but you can order though.

Could be a great place for romantic getaways. There are plenty of kiosks and restaurants nearby.

Can't wait for my next visit!!
