Wow what a discovery!
We were looking for a antique shop and found The dans la vigne!
The other restaurant on the square was closed (such luck!!!)so we stumbled into this little paradise. We were just looking for some tea but decided to stay for lunch. Lovely decor, lovely lady, lovely mosic. Obviously being so small you eat what has been made, which today was, chicken fricassee with wild mushrooms, salifis, potatoes, carrots and white wine. Also the tarte with blue chees, pear and nuts is wonderful. Glass of wine..... well I could have stayed there all afternoon. You do need to reserve to eat at night but I can imagine it will be wonderfull. Funny detail, the resident cat, having a small dog trauma, tried to do a little attack on our Beagle...we got our coffee and chocolat for free...no harm done to the Beagle of course.
Not to be missed this place, very special, really warms your heart.

As a visitor from the U.S., I appreciate the professional service of French restaurants. However, nowhere else in France have I enjoyed such a warm, gracious, charming and welcoming experience as at Le The dans la Vigne, in Nolay. From the moment we arrived, Sylvie made us feel like we had been reunited with a dear friend for a home-cooked dinner. The dining room is cozy and comfortable, with half a dozen candlelit tables, overstuffed chairs and sofas, eclectic books in French and English, and a precocious house cat mingling from table to table. First, we selected the music we would like to hear. We then had a choice of beef (prepared over three days) or poultry dinner, and an excellent wine list. We then shared marvelous cheese and dessert courses with the other guests, with Sylvie's "bombe atomique" as a nightcap. I would recommend going to Burgundy just for Le The dans la Vigne. Merci beaucoup, Sylvie!

This adorable tea salon, wine bar, and restaurant is just perfect, in my opinion. The atmosphere is cluttered country English inside, and flower bedecked tables outside, overlooking Nolay's famous Les Halle. The owner is a delightful lady, who goes above and beyond to make everything a bit extra special. It is truly one of my favorite places. She serves the obvious tea, tarts, wine, salads, and desserts and by special reservation a pre set dinner by candlelight once per week. If you are in the area, do not miss it.

We had a wonderful week in a gite in Nolay, just a few steps across the square from Le The dans la Vigne, where we went for dinner on our first night. It was a wonderful experience - the charming ambiance, the graceful welcome, the individual way everything was arranged, the food and wine ... we liked it so much we went again at the end of the week and it was just as marvellous the second time. There is a set main course (poussins the first time, lamb shanks the next), followed by a platter of local cheeses and finally the invitation to the sweet table, where guests are urged to try everything, including the 'atomic bomb' - a large jar filled with fruit and alcohol, a glass of which will guarantee you a good night's sleep. Wines are local and we were happy to follow Mme Blanchard's recommendations. It is difficult to describe such an unusual place, but an example of its charm is that guests are often asked to choose the music and at each of our places was a selection of old and interesting books, chosen to amuse each guest. My husband was treated to a box containing a book of exercises and the remains of a contraption made of metal handles and elastic with which to tone the muscles! While we were there, a family came to the door to ask if they could have tea and dessert. They were welcomed in, made at home on comfy chairs and sofas at the end of the room and supplied with books and games. It is really more like going to dinner in the home of a thoughtful and entertaining friend than visiting a restaurant. We would recommend anyone travelling through Burgundy to make a detour to Nolay and give themselves a treat at this unique and special place.

We visited on a rainy Monday evening. Sylvie was scheduled to be closed that evening, but smiling and warm hearted, she not only opened up for us but made a special dinner. It could not have been more delightful - the food, the music, the cozy setting, and Sylvie's kindness. And don't miss the "atomic bomb" after dinner drink! You will sleep well. If you visit no other restaurant in Burgundy, visit this one! We dined in a number of Michelin star restaurants in other towns, including Paris. None matched the special joy of dining here.
