Normally we stay at the local B&B but this year they were on vacation so we decided to give the hotel a try. Check in was good but the staff was pretty laid back but still friendly, in the morning we found the staff to be much more friendly and helpful likely the owner. Room was much roomier than expected with a king size bed. Old furnishing add to the atmosphere but if you were not in bed watching the TV was awkward. No view to speak of from our North facing room though plenty of light from the four windows. Had a family event to attend so missed out on the evening meal in the dining room open only Fri, Sat and Sun. Down stairs is the bar but it is closed on the nights the restaurant is open at least the night we were there. Breakfast is continental lots of bread, waffles, fruit, orange juice and coffee/tea. For those who remember it the movie Paper Moon from the 70's was filmed here. Two places to go Made from Scratch restaurant and the local market where you can get some fine smoked meats. Some train noise during the night but then it is a railroad hotel didn't bother us too much don't think here it would matter but we were on the north side away from the tracks.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night which was too short of a time considering that the whole experience was truly awsome. To those who are considering staying here I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a railroad fan or history buff. Not only is there a lot of history here but the staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. To those that gave this hotel mediocre or bad reviews on service or style of rooms should have done more research because it is truly a great experience. So if u like history and and ghost stories of hauntings of sorts then i would rate this as a top notch place. In closing the owners and staff were always friendly and available for any need we had.

Room Tip: if you want a great room with a hint of it being haunted room 305 is the one for you

This hotel had what you look for in a place to stay. The room was clean and we felt safe there. Yes the room was small but it was comfortable and quiet. And it was a very interesting building with that great Western United States historic vibe to it. Much more interesting than staying at any chain hotel.

But checking in was a very bizarre experience. We walked in and went to the front desk where we find a guy sitting at a desk behind a computer who just stared at us. No hello, welcome, or I'll be right with you, just stared. So I asked do you have a room. He replied "yes" and nothing else. We had to pry the privilege of staying at the hotel and he never got up from behind the computer which is about 10 feet from the counter. He even had us read our credit card number out load to him from there. It was just bizarre, so much so that it really took away from what might have otherwise been a great experience at a quaint well kept hotel.

Room Tip: Ask to see a room before committing as some are very small and some are spacious.

Checked in last night expecting a nice room, dinner, bar etc! None of the above!!! Check in was a struggle for them! Charged our CC for the night right away without asking if we wanted to pay cash or credit. Then found out they had a Christmas party planned so the bar and dining area were closed to the public. I understand that, but was not made aware of it when making the reservation four days prior. (Wilson is limited to dining areas)

Our room we booked was a jacuzzi suite, it did have a jacuzzi but the room was so small and had 6 1/2' ceilings. Hallways were dark, room didn't have much light. Pillows were horrible! The room we had was on the third floor.

The couple that went with us had a king room on the second floor and was a lot nicer. Still don't think I would ever go back to this place! First impression was horrible with the staff, etc.

Dining area is in the main check in area so when they are having parties you have sift your way around the party group to go in and out of hotel entrance!

The food did smell exceptional that they served for the christmas party! Just wished they would have been open up front and made us aware of the party.

I did notice someone said all the rooms were full that was a lie. There was probably 3 or 4 rooms being used on the 7th.

Room Tip: Ask questions about dining, bar etc. Also let them know up front if you want to pay cash otherwise they will bill credit card when you check in.

The prime rib was very tender. Our Christmas party was there. I had never been there before. Great atmosphere. The people working there love this place. They are ready to show it off. Every room was booked for the night. We did not stay as all were from a 60 mile radius. Sometimes it is nice to appreciate a historical location. No, it is not like a new modern hotel or diner. If you want something new and boring, don't come here.

Room Tip: We did not sleep there but the rooms are a step back to grand railroading days.
