I decided to try Deshi on the basis of comparison with Wichita's other 2 Indian eateries (Kababs & Passage To India).
The restaurant itself is very very spartan inside. No real decor to speak off.
The order taker said they had some specials available that were not on the menu so I decided to try those. Butter chicken and mutton rogan josh - interestingly he described the mutton as "goat". Each comes with rice and I ordered a garlic naan.
The butter chicken was tasteless. The chicken was at least breast meat but overcooked and ry. The sauce was very thin and had no discernible taste or spice.
The mutton rogan josh at least had some taste and some heat to it. The sauce again was watery but at least the peppers and onions retained some texture. The mutton was "bone in" which would be OK if it were one bone. What I received appeared to be mutton chops, diced up and left with the bone splinters. This made eating it a bit more fussy than need be.
The rice was disappointingly sticky when it should have been a nice fluffy dry pilau. The naan appeared to have been cooked in a tandoor and had a good dose of garlic on it - unfortunately they took it out too quickly as some pats of it were still raw
All in all - skip this place and go to kebabs.
