“Wonderful food served with flair and attention to quality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012 via mobile

Located in the small town of Strong City, Kansas, some 16 miles from Emporia, Ad Astra offers a welcoming, well-appointed space, superb food with a local twist on bistro food, and a delightful wait staff ready to assist and chat about the meal. We visited the restaurant for lunch and left wowed by our experience. The menu presented a varied selection of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, soup, burgers (vegetarian available), pita pizzas, and desserts (more on those latter). We started our meal with a superb Artichoke dip accompanied by tortilla chips. Heavenly choice, lots of artichokes, slightly spicy, and without the greasiness of other dips we have sampled. I ordered "The Winchester" (plenty of ham, gouda, on fresh pretzel bun, trimming of tomatoes, onions, mustard) with a side of soup Tomato Basil. Both were superb. In addition, my wife selected a Rueben, what a terrific sandwich, prepared with care, intense flavors, not greasy, served on a fresh marble rye. Her side was a broccoli salad-- with a delicious sweet-n-sour dressing and bacon. Delicious too! My son choose a Prairie Fire Burger, bison meat with impressive trimings and sauce accompanied by house-made chips. Yet another superb dish! We jumped into dessert without a blink: double chocolate torte, crème brûlée, and NY-style cheesecake. All three were spectacular! No disappointments there. The crème was especially noteworthy, nice caramelized top, wonderful taste with the correct balance. The experience was immensely satisfying. The relaxed ambience made the meal pleasurable, and the superb server provided sensible advice and walked us through the various choice with delight and energy. The restaurant has an impressive bar with a selection of drinks and beers. A place to spend a relaxing meal with friends, chillin´ after a long week, enjoy the atmosphere and fine food. Definietly a place to stop if you are driving through the Flint Hills of Kansas. Only down side is that the restaurant opens on weekends. So plan ahead for an unbelievable meal and quality food.

“Ad Astra Continues to "Hit it Out of the Park"!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

From opening day in April of 2012, the team at Ad Astra in Strong City hit the ground running and haven't missed a beat. The menu is always updated for the seasons, the specials are always excellent and the service is awesome. We eat there 2 to 3 times a week and have NEVER had a long wait for my food or received a meal that was not prepared to perfection.

You can't go wrong if you visit Ad Astra . . . be sure to make a reservation.

“Best potato chips ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

Sure they have perfected the potato chip, but the rest of the menu will blow you away!
Great service and a full bar will meet all your dining needs.

“Great new restaurant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

We travel to Emporia a few times a year, and were excited by the opening of a new restaurant in Strong City, which was recommended to us by locals. It is open only three days a week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), and purposely designed not to compete with the restaurant in the Cottonwood Falls Grant Hotel. While the menu is limited, it is unique (great fried pickles!) and well prepared. The prices are reasonable withthe most expensive meal being the best rib eye I have ever had at $24. The first time we went, our meals with wine for a party of four was less than $100 (without tip).

There are limited number of tables so I highly recommend reservations. Dress is casual, meaning you will feel very comfortable in blue jeans and cowboy boots. We are very happy to see a restaurant of this calibur being open on Sundays. I also note we have visited twice, the first time in September 2012. Although we came back in November, the staff and owner immediately recognized and welcomed us. We definitely will be back on our next visit.
