“Time Capsule back to 1905!”
Reviewed November 26, 2010

The Henderson House Bed and Breakfast is like taking a trip back to 1905 complete with a 1905 Victorian House and all the furnishings. My 25 year old daughter and I stayed in "Mary's Room" in The Henderson House (the owner's Grandmothers home) which is one of 4 early 1900 homes housed on Green Street in Stafford, KS. The homes are charming, quaint, and truly a trip to the past. The city of Stafford is also a trip to the past with it's brick streets and old time main street. It is charming. While in Stafford you must eat at "The Curtis Cafe" which is on the State of Kansas list of "Unique Restaurants". It was started by my grandparents in 1948 and is still family owned by my cousin. It has the best home cooking and is known for it's puzzles on the walls and it's homemade pies. If you are near Stafford, KS, don't miss staying at the Henderson House Bed and Breakfast. It truly takes you back to 1905 with the beautiful wooden staircases, original furnishings, just an experience you can't find in today's world. A unique find in Stafford and wonderful small town experience in the heartland of America.

We decided to try something different for Christmas. Dan and I live amidst the hustle and bustle of Kansas City and wanted to try to slow things down with a traditional Christmas, the way our Grandparents experienced it! We went with my parents and spent 3 days there. The houses were magnificent! Everything was decorated so beautifully, and at night the fresh layer of snow with glowing Christmas lights made it look like a Picture Post Card. Each house had a HUGE tree decorated with period antique ornaments. We even got to put our presents under the tree on Christmas Eve! Dinner was traditional Turkey and Ham with all the fixings, and tasted just like mom used to make. The staff was so helpful, and the prices were unbelievable! It was like we had been transported back in time! I highly recommend Henderson House to ANYONE wishing to spend a relaxing down-home Christmas without the stress of Holidays!

This is a pleasant, unique place to stay. It gave me a feeling of going back in time, and being a part of these old homes. The bedrooms are large and comfortable, and many of the living areas are filled with authentic pieces. The Pavilion in the Littlefield House is large enough to comfortably seat over 30 people. We were glad to see there were lots of tables and chairs. There is a very SMALL sink and a refrigerator as well, but no place to cook. We used the oven in the Henderson House, and carried the food to the Pavilion. The location is great for a large gathering in Central Kansas.
We were a little disappointed in the Nature Photography talk. It was really much more detailed about the equipment than what we were interested in. We would have liked to simply have seen the slide show, and heard a talk geared more toward our amateur level of interest. Be very specific about your expectations, the appropriate topics for your group, and level of participation. Overall however, our stay was a positive experience.
