This was a great location and very close to Castellina a wonderful little town and good base of operations if you have a car. The hotel was great and the people were nice and accommodating. Our only complaint was the furniture in our room was very dated. The armoire had an odd smell and the mattress on the bed was very old and uncomfortable. Breakfast was great and everyone was helpful.

My husband and I stayed in this wonderful place for 2 nights and loved it. The breakfasts were good and we had a great dinner at their restaurant each night. We were there at the end of their season and it was a bit cold so did not use either of the 2 outdoor pools but they looked so inviting! There's a small fitness room which we saw but did not use. We had a nice large bedroom with separate sitting room. There was free WIFI in the room. The staff were all very nice and the grounds were so beautiful. It would be a good place to stay for most of a Tuscany trip as you can easily drive to other small towns.

Our group stayed here for 4 nights recently, and just loved it. Christina & Allesandro make you feel like you at their home. They are most gracious hosts. The accomodations are outstanding, as is the restaurant (we had 2 dinners there in a relaxed, no hurry atmosphere. The breakfast are also great...plus you have your "own" table at every meal.

The location is very convenient to Siena, and other hill towns, and close to Castellina in Chianti for alternative/off site dining.

We will diffently stay here on our next trip to Tuscany, and recommend you do too.

Ciao to Christina & Allesandro

Staff were just wonderful - they did everything they could to make us feel at home! Rooms were clean but basic, but we enjoyed every minute! Staff were so kind, when we wanted to leave a day early due to some change in plans, they cancelled our last night with no cost to us. That was such a wonderful gesture, so thank you!

I discovered Tenuta di Ricavo from a friend who visited before, and I am very glad we took their advice! As other reviewers stated, it is rustic elegance rather than sleek and polished, but it has everything you could want for a romantic getaway in Chianti. Christina (owner) was very accommodating and has great recommendations. In fact, all of the staff was very nice and helpful. Our room was in a detached building. The furnishings were a bit dated, but the bathroom was immaculate and the pastoral views from the deck were phenomenal. We spent one evening sitting on the deck watching the sunset and then stars in the sky.

It is very important you have a car to get to/from the hotel. It is not central to anything, and that is kind of the point. We stayed 4 days. Two days we did day trips to San Gimignano (worth the visit) and surrounding countryside towns. The other two days we stayed on the hotel grounds, relaxing by the pool, going for morning runs in the countryside and hiking local trails. Note we were there in August and it was extremely hot; thankfully the pools were very refreshing and all rooms have modern AC.

The food at the restaurant is very good. If you are only there for a couple of days, I would say stay put and eat at the hotel. If you are there for longer you may want to venture out to neighboring towns to mix it up.

Tenuta di Ricavo is a great place, I can easily recommend it and I personally look forward to my next trip!

We stayed at this beautiful resort for an entire week. We could have stayed longer. We had just come from Paris, and the peacefulness of Ricavo was just what we were looking for. Our room was beautiful, clean, and large enough to accomodate our family of four comfortably. Christina (the owner) and Daniela were so helpful with planning our day trips to Florence, the beach, and many hilltop towns. Our family also took a cooking class, with a local chef, which Daniela set up for us. The evening was unforgettable. The food at the restaurant was delicious and fresh!!! We would definitely revisit this little gem again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the family suite which had a separate bedroom and two beds placed in the living room...

This was our second stay at Tenuta di Ricavo and we again had a wonderful time. As some other reviewers have noted, the hotel is rustic and pretty rather than ultra-modern and overly manicured (gravel track off the main road, traditional furniture in the rooms, limited wi-fi coverage) but this should not be considered a negative - it is all part of Tenuta's timeless charm. Our superior room was very comfortable, with a terrace overlooking the hills. The grounds and pool area are well tended with fig trees, plum trees, lavender and butterflies in abundance. The hotel is in a great location - locally Castellina has lots of eating options and little shops, and day trips to Siena and Florence are very feasible. We ate at the hotel on three nights out of our four night stay, going for the half board option which was very tasty every night and seemed like a bit of a bargain really. The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. All in all, a great place!
