“Pristine wonderland vacation site. We loved and will be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2011

Tenuta di Ricavo will remain the most memorable stay of our Italy trip. This pristine and romantic location in the center of Tuscany's Chianti region harks of life hundreds of years ago. Staff was very courteous, efficient and trustworthy. When you get there check out the deep history of the Swiss family that bought the estate four generations ago and turned it into an upscale resort with many amenities. The caring, honest and thoughtful virtues of it's ownership's ancestry still remains.
The squeaky clean grounds are full of flowers and fragrant, well placed trees. Very good value for the money. There are trails for intrepid walkers in the 400+ hectares plus a small chappel, two swimming pools, restaurant with fabulous breakfast. Breakfast was included in our tarrif. We were very late arriving and when we called to let them know they were very helpful and reassuring, offering to leave dinner for us. We would return regularly!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tenuta di Ricavo. The hotel is lovely and so is the surrounding countryside. The staff was so helpful and excellent at giving you directions. Giving good directions in Italy is a must and they gave the best! We had a few problems with getting our internet to work, but they bent over backwards to accomodate us. We ate in the restuarant one night and the food was delicious, however, there was only one other couple in the dining hall and so it seemed rather quiet. The breakfast was also very good and they had the best orange/carrot juice--you must try it. Every evening there was a roaring fire in the main room and it was very pleasant to sit there and meet other guests. My only complaint about this hotel is that I felt like it was a bit remote. There were not too many restuarants in close proximity to the hotel and after sight seeing all day the last thing I wanted to do was get back in the car and drive another 10k to a restuarant. But if you remember to make reservations at the hotel restuarant you don't have to leave....and it is a lovely place to be!

It has now been a while since our trip to Tuscany and Tenuta di Ricavo but things are remember is the beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Renting a car is a must to get around and you can do that easily and there are many places to visit. The receptionist was extremly helpful, a local italian with excellent English. She helped us to book horseback riding and upgraded us to a suite that was as large as an apartement!

At night we went to the pool and watched the stars... very romantic.

Food was good but one of the waitresses had a go at me since there was a misunderstanding. I felt a bit annoyed by her bad manners but other than that this was the only incident.

I would recommend to go here, especially when looking for a romantic get a way with your partner. Peacful, romantic and lots to see and do!

My husband & I loved our time at this place. Beautiful outlooks over the countryside, the room had everything to make us very comfortable, lovely linen, towels. Just loved all the indivudual furniture throughout the whole hotel. We ate in almost every night because the food was exquisite!! Great service and wonderful individual attention to detail.

Tenuta was a wonderful surprise, an actual medieval farm village restored as an inn. The owner and her staff were very helpful in planning car tours of surrounding Tuscany, and our lovely room was a quiet haven to return to. We ate every night in the dining room, where our server was always interested in introducing us to local specialities. Having a drink in front of the fire in the grand sitting room was memorable. Our room was spotless, and the views of the surrounding mountain preserve beautiful. Although some might not like the isolation of the place-no gelato shops to walk to after dinner- we loved the peaceful respite from other more crowded places in the area.

For a standard room, we were given beautiful a four poster bed in the main building! The style is Tuscanian with beautiful curtains and stylish old furniture which reflects its authenticy. The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere so it is very quiet and it is on the hill. We did not use the swimming pools but I believe it must be fanastic because the pools are surrounded by mountains.

The breakfast is good and the dinner excellent. The dish is fantastic and I have had a 10 out 10 panna cotta that melt in your mouth!

My best friend and I spent a week in Tuscany late May this year, and our stay at Tenuta di Ricarvo was wonderful. I have traveled to many countries and stayed all kind of hotels but I have to say, Ricarvo is one of the best. The hospitality and the guest care were great. Christina, the owner helped us to contact Hertz rental car for our broken navigation, she gone above and beyond to help us. Also, she provided great suggestions of places to visit which made our experiences in Tuscany unforgetable. Finally, Danella, the reception manager provided us details driving direction to Florence so that I am not end up in non-drving zone. If I am returning to Tuscany, I will definitely stay at Ricavo again!
