We went to this place after reading reviews on trip advisor. We were traveling from Colorado to Missouri and we had been on the road for many hours and we really wanted to go to a sit down restaurant and relax. When we got there they said it would be a 30-45 min wait, I really didn't want to wait that long since we still had a 4 hour drive and it was already 6:30pm. I went ahead and said we will wait and see because sometimes restaurants over estimate their time of wait. Good thing we waited because it wad less than 10 min!! They were extremely busy so instead of making my family and 2 other families all with small children wait, they opened the "board room" for all of us. This area was a bit nicer than the rest of the restaurant (with cloth table cloths and napkins) it appeared to be for businesses conducting meetings. I appreciated their quick response on getting us seated very quickly as we were starving!! They gave all of us water and lemons on the side (you don't see that much anymore) warm bread and butter (before we even had our menus) the good was AMAZING and the portion sizes were HUGE (even the kids portions were huge and the cost of all the kids meals were under $5 that is with the drink). This was our first time there and we will definitely go back if we go through Salina Ks again.

Do yourself a favor and plan your trip around a dinner at Martinelli's Little Italy in Salina Kansas. Yes, that's Salina! Great ambiance with rustic Italian village decor. Light tomato sauces and don't skip the home made Italy sausage.... the best I have even tasted... better than anyplace I have found in Dallas or even in Italy!

Charming service and easy on the budget.... an under five dollar salad is large enough for two... and nice wine selections at $5 per glass. (Not $8-$11 as is usual in larger cities).

Say hello to the young owner Tony who has some great stories about learning the Italian Restaurant trade in Chicago.

***** Five Star rating from us and we will be back every trip through Kansas. Skip the plastic fast food and make Little Italy in Kansas your travel stop.

In thinking back about all the restaurants in which we ate dinner on our 4 week driving trip last Feb. & Mar, Martinelli's had to rate number one.. The reason, the staff. We've made it a point to go there on on our last three trips from WI to CA.The food is standard Italian fare, well prepared and tasty. The really enjoyable part of the experience is being served by people who are enthusiastic and who like what they are doing. There are different portion sizes for their salads and pasta dishes and the wait staff are very helpful so that you can make the right choices. The management here has done a very good job.

We came into town thur. night for the river fest. that Salina has. This was our first time here and we were starving. Our hotel recommended Martinellis so we tried it.We had to wait for a while as they were so busy but the little blonde manager kept buzzing around and making us laugh with her stories very nice change of pace from what we are used to seeing in other places. We were seated and had the best young spanish waiter so outgoing. Since we were from out of town we had many questions about Salina and the young lady that was the manager took time out of her busy busy day to come and explain the town and points of interest! She even kept my husband entertained with stories of her growing up in Texas!!! We have never had such a pleasant dining experiance,we felt like we were the only people there and they were doing everything just for us.I think everybody should dine at Martinellis when in Salina Ks and be sure to order the alfredo, its to die for. After dining we were looking for a place to have a cocktail and the manager recommended a little place down the street, I think it was 111 or maybe 112 I cant remember but it was a very nice place also. Thank You young lady for making us feel so welcome with your warmth we will be back and so will all our friends. Remember the name Martinellis

Martinelli's is one of those places. It's an old fashioned red and white checkered oilcloth tablecloth places. We walked in, were shown to our table and the bread was on the table even before our butts even hit the seats. Our delightful waitress brought menus and asked if we had ever been there before. Then she told us about the portions. Most dishes come i1/4, 1/2 and full serving. Now get this, a 1/4 portion serves 1-2, a 1/2 serves 3-4 and a full serving probably serves everyone in the restaurant. So we started with a 1/4 salad and a 1/4 portion of spaghetti and meatballs. Salad was fresh picked lettuce, tomatoes and grated Parmesan with an Italian dressing. Decent size serving of pretty ordinary spaghetti was topped with marinara sauce and an 8 ounce meatball roughly the size of a softball. Total for both dishes was just under $10 so we added desert. Canoli sounded good and we had our choice again of sizes - 1, 2 or 3. We split one filled with really fresh ricotta and chocolate chips with chocolate and caramel sauce swirled on the plate. Service could not have been better. We left full and happy. It wasn't the best meal we ever had, but it was educational and a lot of
fun. We'll never forget it.
