“Hobbit pod stay”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

Just returned from a break in a hobbit pod.

The site is in the grounds of a big old house and consists of hundreds of acres of fields/woodland.
The main building/reception serves food/drinks and acts as a centre point for all the groups who book activities like quad biking etc etc.

Then you drive from reception down a track to the glamping area where the hobbit pods are located in the wooden area and the teepees/safari tents are located in the field opposite, all very spaced out so no privacy or noise issues as there were a few hen and stag parties but the site has strict noise/nuisance policy that fines people if any calls outs or complaints are made which is handy.

Up from the hobbit pods the communal showers x 2 and 2 toilets all seemed very clean and fresh and next to these is a communal area that has sink, water, kettles, gas hobs, table chairs etc for cooking food etc

The hobbit pods are simply camping so you need to be prepared to make it enjoyable with charcoal etc plus camping stoves, lots of food plus some music.

The pods contain a bunk bed and day bed type thing (I think more of the pods should have the option of a double bed for couples), plus an old well used wobbly BBQ, well used fire basket plus bench and table outside.

I’m new to camping so I was surprised the pods didn’t have any locks if you head out for the day so all your things are safe, I know a tent would have the same issue but I just think a lock of some sort would be handy.

The staff are very friendly, especially the two people who looked after our area plus Kerry who prepares the pods.

A nice place and great if you like camping, it’s not for us, well for 1 night max but I would consider staying again but in accommodation that has more facilities (ie a toilet).

But if you want an experience or you are in to camping then I can’t see why you wouldn’t enjoy your stay.

Tip:
Use the showers in the main building if you can be bothered to walk as they are more powerful and have more light.
Take your own sponge and tea towel
Take candles/torch

Suggestions:
More pods with double beds would be helpful for couples staying.
Replace the wobbly old BBQ’s.

Quick review - expensive for what it is and customer service very lacking - the location is as you would expect lovely and the tents pretty neat.

make sure you check stuff is open as we found pretty much all activities were closed as only appeared to open in school hols which was a big let down.

Just got back from camp katur staying in the yurts for 5 people (as part of yurtshire). It was fantastic, an amazing site. Staff were very friendly and the site was peaceful and very clean and well signposted. We quad biked and the instructor was lovely and tried his best to get us muddy :) iv been quading 4 times and this was by far the best, it was set up specifically for it going through the woods, up ramps and hills etc.

We also rented the outdoor hot tub and sauna for a few hours. Sauna was great and there was little loungers outside too. The hot tub though was so got we couldn't get in! It burnt us! In the end we had to put lots of cold water in, but it still was too hot and therefore unenjoyable (never thought I'd complain a hot tub would be too hot!!)

Sure super clean and all the activities looked good. We wished we had stayed longer!!

Only issue was no lock on the inside of door on our private toilet (it was on the outside- pointless). Door swung open while on toilet.

Definatley would come again.

We stayed in the small Romeo and Juliet hobbit pod for 1 night to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday. While the pod was small and cosy it was more than enough for the two of us. There was a lovely double bed, with pillows and duvet already made up, along with hot water bottles and a gas heater! There were lovely little touches both inside and outside the pod, with rugs inside and candles with lanterns both in and outside. The pod itself was lovely and clean upon arrival, as was the barbeque, which we cooked our dinner on that evening. The fire pit was a lovely addition to the outside - we purchased a sack of logs from reception for £6.50 and there was definitely more than enough for the evening! The communal kitchen was lovely and well equipped and while the toilet facilities were basic they were nice clean (it also looked as though they were building a new toilet block!) The pods were lovely and private and the whole place was nice and quiet. We did an activity with Camp Hill in the day (an hour on segways) and I can't recommend them enough either. We will definitely be coming back with our son and dog in tow and have recommended this place to our friends.

We stayed in hobbitt pod 3, the forest location was a lovely experience. The pod was clean and the little finishing touches where nice. We have used pods before but this one had practical finishes such as coat hangers and a mirror. The pods are spaced to ensure privacy. The toilets are portakabin loo's and were kept clean, the communal kitchen hub is well stocked and has everything you need to cook and wash up. This wasnt made clear and we took our own but when we return we will use whats available. The site gets really dark so bring a good torch and 2 hot water bottles are provided luckily we had two with us. It got nippy at night but the gas heater provided warmed us up quickly. Perfect family break in lovely surroundings with activites for kids free of charge on the camp hill estate.

Had a wonderful 2 nights here this week (thankfully in sunny weather) staying with husband, 2 young boys and a very excited springer spaniel! Truly idyllic location. Huge site but accommodation spread out so you feel very comfortable - right balance between not being disturbed or risk disturbing others. Safari tent was excellent. Log burner, stove, dining table, leather sofa, double bed and 2 bunks so both boys could go on the top!! Great little loo and shower shed. Loads of great walks thru woods pheasant, squirrel and rabbit watching. Springer loved this - strictly kept on lead at all times! Boys bit young for most activities such as quad bikes, aerial extreme and segways but they were v happy Love to return. Thank you for great stay.

As it seems to be the very beginning of the season we seemed to be the only people staying on site, it was a country escape at it's best!

We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet Hobbit Pod! I can say I was pleasantly surprised at all the little touches that they added the string of fairy lights the home comforts - scatter cushions on the bed, soft rugs at the side of the bed and the lovely gas fuelled log burner!

We only stayed for the one night but wished we had stayed longer! It provided the rest and recuperation that we much needed! I would definitely recommend to others as a place to get away and relax.

Just what we needed! Thanks!
