The service was impeccable. The food, oh so delicious. The restaurant was quiet even though full of people, but it wasn't stuffy at all. It was so nice to have a conversation between the three of us where we didn't have to raise our voices to be heard. I had the green salad, Mahi Mahi, and a perfect lemon dessert. Oh, and did I tell you about the bread? Baked in house, it had soul. Altogether, a perfect meal!

We have had Story on our list for quite some time and so we elected to dine with friends during Kansas City's annual 'Restaurant Week,' which is probably not the best time to judge a restaurant. No problem, Story handled a full house (by 6 PM!) easily. Our server was almost invisible when doing the chores (clearing plates, topping off drinks, etc.) She was present and knowledgeable at the right times. The three course special menu was a good sampler of Story's regular menu. We all enjoyed the experience and pledged to return soon.

Although the menu is very limited, there is enough choice for most tastes. Our meals were excellent and the service was friendly without being obtrusive. The wine list is comprehensive but badly overpriced. The very negative aspect of the place is the noise. The modern, stark decor creates an acoustic nightmare. The tables are placed elbow to elbow so that with the ambient noise level, we could hear other conversations easier than our own. Would go back for the food but won't because of the ambiance, or lack thereof.

This stylish place is located in the older, Northern part of Johnson County in a remodeled shopping center. Clearly, it is for serious diners with an eclectic, international menu that often emphasizes fish dishes (although several in our group had the veal loin and another the short ribs - both excellent). Servers are friendly and efficient and show a solid knowledge of the menu. The wine list is impressive and has received a number awards (there is usually a sommelier on hand who knows the wines well and can offer advice). The menu is somewhat limited in the sense that there are about six cold appetizers/salads, six hot appetizers and a choice of six entrees. This is probably an attempt to keep the focus of the kitchen on fewer dishes & it works. The decor is modern, clean & light colored - there are some glass walls and a few modern paintings. A word about the prices: they are on the high side (entrees $30-40) but again this is fine dining. Wine list prices are also fairly high (there were, however, some good reasonably priced wines by the glass). One last tip - if you would like to just try some of the kitchen's offerings before making a dinner reservation, stop by the happy hour when the bar menu is half off and there are drink specials.

We very much enjoyed the delicious whitefish dinner. The service and energy of the restaurant was much appreciated. We also enjoyed our cocktails.
