Sheraton Overland Park Hotel at the Convention Center

We were in town for a family reunion and chose this hotel for its location. I must say I have never experienced such indifferent customer service. When we checked in, the clerk neglected to direct us to the elevators and watched us go in the wrong direction. We went back to the desk and she laughed and said she guessed she should have told us where the elevators were.

The room reeked of old, stale cigarette smoke. Thankfully, I travel with a candle but I know there are chemicals and deodorizers they can use to lessen the smell. There was a dog convention and a large family reunion and people running down the halls, loud talking, door slamming until about 3 a.m. A call to the front desk did no good.

We called the valet the next morning and requested a taxi. The valet told me it would be there in two minutes. We arrived in the lobby about five minutes later and there was no taxi waiting. My husband approached the valet and he acted like he didn't know anything about it. We saw him convering with the young lady who I had spoken with earlier and he came over to tell us they had called and it would be another 10 minutes. We waited an hour and finally called a family member to come and pick us up. Very irritating.

We will not stay here again. Although the lobby area was lovely, and the rooms comfortable, the employees are obviously unaware of basic customer service.

The Sheraton in OP by far is the best in the area if you are staying in OP for business. I would recommend the Country Club Plaza for vacationers. This hotel was made for the business traveler and because it is a fairly new hotel the hotel is nicely appointed. Keep in mind it tends to get very crowded at times when companies hold events in the conventions center next door.

If you are looking for an oasis of come, I recommend you book a room on the club floors which are the last floors of the building. This area is reserved only for those who pay a little more and those who are elite members and get upgraded. The benefit there is you get free breakfast, evening snacks, and less people traffic.

The selection of food and beverage is not necessarily inspiring but will fill you up. Something that did impress me was the fact that the fitness center was not a closet or a hole in the wall, but a large airy space with adequate equipment. This is something that most hotels leave as an after thought. There was actually 4 treadmill, 3 stairs steps, weight machines, bicycles, dumb bells, etc that were in fairly good condition. For a road warrior like myself, staying in shape is a priority and this is an area from my standpoint a lot of hotels have missed on.

Therefore, for business travel in Overland Park, I recommend the Sheraton after having stayed at the Marriott, Embassy Suites, and Doubletree.

If You Have The Chance To Stay At This Location While In The Olathe/Overland Park Area, ou Will Not Be Disappointed. The Rooms Are Clean And Quiet And The Staff Is Always Professional. Also, The Buffet They Have At Breakfast Is Awesome To Say The Least. Easy Access To I-435 And Plenty Of Good Restaurants Within Few Blocks.

We left sunny Florida for a business trip to KC in NOVEMBER! Freezing cold outside but the hotel was nice and cozy. Room was small but small but good enough for a weekend stay. Beds were comfy and had plenty of blankets and pillows. Spacious and comfortable lobby. Friendly staff. Good location which was a 2 minute drive to a mall and any other kind of shopping. Close to the main highway but still quiet. Restaurants did not have enough choices on the menu. Could not find valet attendant after 10 pm so had to park in garage and run into the hotel in the freezing cold! Was not impressed with the gift shop if you want to call it that; more like a "Oops I forgot to bring..." shop.

We stayed during the Big 12 Craziness and the hotel provided fantastic service even with the crowds. The entire metro area was sold out! The hotel is beautiful. We will definately stay there again. This hotel is much nicer than anything in the Plaza and near the Town Center & Oak Park Mall shopping malls - as well as the new Crate & Barrel.

Was a frequent guest from May-Aug 2006. I knew people staying at the other places, and the Sheraton is the best hotel in the area. About 5 years old, good gym, and great staff.

It was always extremely full though.
