I live in Colorado but visit my family in Kansas City frequently. This time I was fortunate enough to tag along with them to the Deanna Rose Farmstead and I am sure glad I did! Sun - Thurs it's free admission and Fri & Sat it's still cheap - only $2 per person. Your kids can pan for gold, feed the animals, ride horses, etc... It's great entertainment for kids 2-12. You must check it out!

I highly recommend bringing your child here if you are anywhere near KC! Immediately upon entry you feel like you've stepped back in time 100 years! Admission on the weekends is $2/ person (Mon.- Thurs. Is Free), spend $10 on the combo pack to do activities such as pony rides, cane pole fishing (we always catch a fish, quickly), mining for "gold" & other gems (that you keep), goat bottle feeding, and a horse drawn carriage ride. These activities are also available to purchase separately, but you save several $$ buying the combo. Parents need not purchase tickets for the activities (except carriage ride or if you would like to solely participate in one of the activities). Pedal tractors, the dairy barn, the teepees, the one room school house and playground area (complete with slides coming out of a barn) are free activities. There are also several farm animals to pet and/or feed. My son especially loved feeding the ducks from his hand and petting the calves in the dairy barn. There are also some animals to observe only (bobcats, bison, birds of prey). There are also concessions available. We brought a picnic lunch & although not allowed on the farmstead, there is a nice picnic area tucked in some trees by the parking lot, complete with picnic tables & playground. Have I convinced you to bring your family yet?? :)

If you have preschool to elementary aged children do not miss this place. With free admission we were not expecting it to be so good and a visit to this farmstead turned out to be one of everyone's top activities after a week long vacation in the Kansas City area. Our elementary aged kids thought it was awesome. Beautifully landscaped throughout. Lots of farm animals to pet and feed and view and many different activity areas available. For a modest fee you can feed goats, mine for gems, fish with a cane pole. Plenty of playground equipment in interesting areas, like a slide out of a barn. Lots to do and touch and see, including an indian village with real teepees set up. The school house is air conditioned and has a costumed guide that told about history and gave our children slates to write assignments on. The farmstead appears to be in the midst of a giant expansion project which when done will add even more awesome places such as a general store and a railway. The construction does not take away from the beauty and fun of the place. Don't miss this one if you have young children.
