Relaxing and knowledgable staff. My son enjoyed the geo catching lesson. Beautiful paths, trees and flowers.

This is an excellent day trip just south of Overland Park. Easy to find with plenty of parking. There is no cost but donations are accepted and you will want to donate when you leave. There are miles of walking trails through all types of vegetation. Shade from the trees or open areas. This is definately kid friendly with childrens exhibits. The flowers are just amazing and a photographers dream. Go early in the morning while the dew still drips from the flowers. There are ponds with waterfalls. Take your lunch and eat at the tables provided. Great place to visit.

As the City of OP contiues its expansion toward the Oklahoma border, the city council has seen fit to preserve this semi-rural 300 acre lot of tree encased trails as well as the formal flower gardens. Get a map when you arrive so you can see everything, and also so you do not get lost when hiking the somewhat hilly five miles of trails.

Note: Effective Jan 2, 2013 there is now a charge of $3 for adults and children over 13; for children 6-12 the charge is a $1; Children under 6 free. Annual memberships starts at $35 and allows for free admission.
Dogs have been allowed on the hiking trails but there are issues with dogs being off leash (not allowed) and owners not picking up after their dogs which may lead to a ban on dogs in the future. Dogs are not allowed on asphalt paths or in the garden areas.
