We have been staying at Acorns for a while now. We started out with a Cabin, then the Lodge, and Cabins again. While we have stayed many times, I don't know that we will again. The view from the
lake to the Large Cabin had been so beautiful. You could even get down to the water from the Cabin. It is now so overgrown, that is no longer a possibliity. Our most recent stay was in one of the smaller cabins. I love the look and atmosphere but, couldn't get past the lack of cleanliness. There were spider webs everywhere inside the cabin. The towels and wash cloths were stained. The first morning I woke up with a dead bug in my bed. I didn't dare use any of the dishes or utensils without washing them first. We love Milford Lake but plan on finding another place to stay.

Wish we had read "happycampers" review before we booked our trip! We stayed here 2 years ago. They have "rules" posted in the cabin, one being you may be charged a cleaning fee if these "rules" are not followed. Since it was just my spouse and I, we did not plan to use the dishwasher but rather do them by hand. After about third day we opened the dishwasher to find it FULL of VERY dirty dishes that had been left by previous occupants. Evidently this had not been checked by housekeeping. I did not report this and decided it was easier and quicker to wash all the dishes by hand because there was no way they were going to come clean in dishwasher at this time.
We decided to give it another try this year, especially since they have added the boat dock. There was mold around the bathtub...bath towels, washrags and kitchen towels yellow &/or with unpleasant stains. Some dishes and utensils had to be washed before they could be used. Huge cobwebs gathering on walls.
They seem to have a lot on new projects going around the resort. Normally this would be great and an indication it is successful. However, if they can not maintain and clean the existing units, how are they going to maintain the new ones? When we go back to Milford Lake again, we definitly will not be staying here again!

The idea of this resort is a great one for central Kansas. Appears though that all the money being made is to build more units to make more money, but not maintaining the units already built. We have used this resort several times and this year it is obvious we won't use it again. Cleanliness is certainly not a priority here. The bathrooms were filthy with mold, while the toilet could only fill the tank to be flushed about every hour. The mattress pad on the bed has so many urine stains, it looks like is should be yellow instead of white. The dishes, pans, towels and linens that "are provided", are very less than appetizing to use. We had issues with the a/c not working. They did call out a repair person and bring us fans for the 105 degree weather!! Unfortunately the cabin didn't cool til about 2 am. There was absolutely no concern or compassion from management and no reimbursement or offer to make anything right! The water level of the lake is up very high, it has covered the nice sandy beach that is pictured with these cabins. Even though the water is high, doesn't mean they shouldn't clean the swimming area. It is loaded with sticks, debris, trash.... Definitely was not the enjoyable time we hoped for. Maybe instead of building to make more money, they should concentrate on where they started to keep it appealing!

HappyCamper29386
Acorns Resort strives to provide our guests with the best possible experience to make their stay with us memorable. We were sorry to hear that HappyCamper29386 was disappointed in a few of our services. With regard to the problem they experienced with the toilet, we were unaware of a problem previously. Once we were alerted, a plumber was called and the problem promptly corrected. Acorns regularly replaces, replenishes and updates all of our linens, bedding, flatware and Cabin accommodations to provide a clean, sanitary, and enjoyable vacation atmosphere.
When the office was contacted with the A/C problem, the on-site owner immediately arrived at the Cabin to assess the situation within 5 minutes. Although it was after normal business hours, (just after 5:00pm) a HVAC technician was brought out and the A/C turned back on in less than an hour. The extremely high summer temps, and a larger than normal crowd staying in the cabin, correlated to numerous trips in and out the doors, which contributed to a longer-than-normal cooling down process. The owner was recalled at approximately 9pm with complaints that the Cabin was still too warm. Upon arriving, the thermostat read 74 degrees and the Cabin was noticeably cooler. He again apologized for their discomfort and trouble and provided two supplemental fans to help cool.
Due to unprecedented flooding on the Missouri River, the US Army Corps of Engineers made the difficult decision NOT to release water from Milford Lake for a substantial period of time this summer. This did contribute to high water on the lake, almost to the point of flood stage. Unfortunately, as waters rise and wind and boats move water, debris and branches repeatedly get washed up on shore. Resort workers diligently fought a daily battle to keep the beach area (and the resort as a whole) clean. We are deeply sorry they were unhappy the sand was not visible due to high water and found the beach to be unsatisfactory. Our customers are the reason we are in business and their satisfaction and happiness are our number one goal. While we are disappointed to hear they were unsatisfied, we always encourage feedback, good or bad, as that is how we are alerted to problems or suggestions for things we could improve upon.

We have stayed at Acorns Resort for a weekend family reunion for the past three years. Additions have been made every year to improve the quality of the stay, such as beach improvements, a deluxe cabin in addition to the other smaller cabins, lodge, full hook-ups for campsites. The location is a lovely wooded area above Milford lake, with a steep path that leads down to the beach area. The scenery is really quite beautiful. The cabins are nicely equipped and for the most part well maintained. The bathrooms were not quite as clean as one would want for a place claiming to be a resort. The resort accommodations are heavily used making reservations nearly impossible during the peak season. There are two rental RVS on site which were adequate but showed a lot of abuse also. The campground is just a large parking lot with full hook-ups spaced around the perimeter. It isn't a destination for someone wanting to just camp, but for groups with campers and cabiners, it works well. The only shower and restroom facilities are in the cabins and lodge rooms.

We stayed in the Deluxe Cabin with extended family -- 12 people, including children between 4 and 9. What a wonderful getaway - truly a hidden gem and nothing like you'd expect from a visit to Kansas! We enjoyed playing horseshoes at the horseshoe pit, a picnic, skipping rocks at the pier, climbing trees, numerous nature hikes through the woods and along the lake, nightly campfires (capped by a shooting star sighting), bird watching (lots of hawks and even a bald eagle right outside our window), and a frigid dip in the water at the beach (new family tradition). Basically, good, wholesome, All-American fun.

The cabin itself was set up great for extended family. There are two separate living areas. We put a Wii downstairs for bowling and golf tournaments, leaving the upstairs living space for crafts, board games and eating. There are essentially 5 bedrooms, sleeping up to 12. Two of those bedrooms are really a large room separated in part by a wall, so that was a good room for the kids. There were also a couple of small alcoves (the kids called them "caves") that made for fun indoor play.

The kitchen is stocked with place settings for 12, plus pots and pans and an assortment of cooking utensils. There's a coffee maker (ours was not working -- I expect that has since been corrected), toaster, gas stove and microwave. The outdoor grill is gas (not charcoal as it says on the website). We didn't use that, but expect to use it next year (yes, we've already booked it). There was plenty of dish soap, trash bags, dishwasher detergent, paper towels and toilet paper. There's no daily maid service, so we took the trash to the dumpster each night (don't leave outside or the critters might get into it!). The fridge was big enough for all of our food (and we were there for Thanksgiving), though we brought coolers in case we needed back up space for beverages.

The tap water is fine for cooking and cleaning, but bring your own bottled water for drinking!

They stock towels in the bathrooms. You do need to bring your own hand soap, shower soap, shampoo. There are two full bathrooms, each with tub/shower.

There are 6 chairs at the main table. The lower level has a cafe table with 4 chairs. The deck has a table with (I think) 6 chairs, as well. The deck is fabulous. It's the full length of the cabin, facing the gorgeous water view. It was a popular spot for reading and just hanging out in the sun. In warmer weather, I expect you'd eat out on the deck.

The tvs are nice, and both have DVD players and auxiliary hook-ups. The free wi-fi was a great bonus out there in the boonies! The fireplace is gas and puts out good heat.

All in all, we had an amazing trip. The outdoor amenities were fabulous for people who like nature, and the cabin itself was spacious enough that all of us family didn't get on each others' nerves even after 4 days of togetherness. We look forward to returning!
