Mushroom Rock SP is an excellent diversion from I70 in central Kansas. Two short trails lead to very interesting rock formations that look like mushrooms as the name of the park implies. Thirty minutes is all that is required to see the park and take some photos. Kids will love it and remember it. Although the trails are not wheelchair accessible there are some formation viewable from the parking lot.

These are very interesting rock formations in the middle of nowhere. Worth the drive if you are going in the general direction. Be prepared for dirt roads. Not to bad and ok for regular sedan. Would not go during or right after heavy rain.

We had a few hours to kill before going to the Cosmosphere the next day so we decided to checkout mushroom rock state park.
Here’s what you need to know. The entrance to it is a 2 mile long gravel road. There are bathrooms but nothing else. No staff on site. There are two 1/8 mile easy dirt trails leading to the various formations. One left and one right. The paths aren’t wheelchair accessible but you can see a lot from the road. There isn’t really anything else here. It’s basically in between pastures.
The formations are very interesting and unique but have all been carved with initials It’s not worth making a special trip for this but if you happen to be in the area or at the lake nearby and need a break it’s something to do.

This place is amazing, small but, amazing. Unique sandstone formations that mimic mushrooms, huge mushrooms! There is a short trail to view on opposite sides of the road where you park. A restroom is available although the women’s door lock was broken. Worth the drive even though time spent is less than an hour.

It really is neat to see this amazing rock formation and imagine the millions of years it took to form. See it now before some crazy vandal decides it would be cool to knock it over or carve away the base.
