“Only good things to say about this quality hotel in Manhattan, KS”
Reviewed March 6, 2011

We just spent one night here and found the room and entire facility to be extremely clean and comfortable. We were very pleased with the big comfortable bed. Loved the nice, new, clean bathroom. So nice to have a refrigerator and microwave in our room. Very quiet hallways. Never did hear a train...Did not use the pool or exercise facilities but they looked good. The free breakfast in the morning was fairly average. Would recommend this hotel.

I have stayed at this hotel three times in the last six weeks. I travel to Manhattan regularly to take my small dog to KSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This hotel is one of the few in the areas that allows pets so that is an important consideration. Rooms are always clean, comfortable, halls have been quiet at night. Breakfast is a little weak and parking could be a problem if the hotel was full, but otherwise a good stay. I plan to continue staying there.

I know alot of these COMPLAINTS are out dated by like 2yrs. New owners have just bought this property and they are doing alot of work on it and as for the train it never blows its horn half the time i never even heard it go by. The staff at Quality inn & suites are the nicest most pleasent staff ive met in along time.
All im saying is anyone could get on here and say crap like exemployees and as for the pictures on the last post you could get those anywhere.

We stayed here for one night as we had a family function in town. Unfortunately, the reservations were made by my mother-in-law who hadn't known to look to TA for reviews.
In short, the hotel is falling apart and unsanitary (I will also be filing a complaint with the city).
First impressions: You are knocked over from the overwhelming smell of chlorine and humid air upon opening the front doors. The elevator buttons have wallpaper either peeling away around them or simply missing altogether. The elevators themselves seem as if they have no air in them whatsoever. Everything about the hotel in the public spaces just seem as if they have been neglected (and for some time).
Rooms: Humid & dark. (I did read reviews and ensured we stayed on the front side of the hotel away from the train tracks). Shower had mold in it. Our desk in the room had been turned around so that the front was facing the wall. We weren't about to try to turn around to see what happened to the other side.
The worst part of the hotel was the airconditioning. Completely (and I mean completely) filled with MOLD! Inside the airconditioning unit was filled with disgusting black mold and the walpaper around the unit was peeling away only to reveal more mold on the wall. Family members in two additional rooms had the same mold problem, and when checking the air unit out in the hall - same moldy unit with moldy walls around it!
We had to stay because of the party we were attending and no time to debate with the front desk and/or try to find another hotel. Otherwise, we would have high-tailed it out of there. (not to mention we didn't quite know the extent of the problem until we started taking pictures the next morning when we had a little more light to see).
The next morning (and for the next several days) we were all sick.
The conditions were simply deplorable. It is incomprehensible how a business can think it is even remotely ok to allow people to be put at such health risks. Does the Quality Inn corporation not have sanitary standards they must uphold?
Do yourself and your health a favor and find another hotel.
The Holiday Inn in town is new and looks great.

Thank you very much for bringing these issues to our attention. We have used your review and included photos to make improvements in several areas, most importantly the air conditioning units and their cleaning schedule. Your review has shown us areas where we can do better and we will continue to work hard for our customers and ALWAYS use their feedback to ensure the guest experience at the Quality Inn & Suites is the best it can be.

My husband and I were looking for a hotel near Fort Riley to stay the night. We drove past the Quality Inn and decided to give it a shot. The staff were extremely friendly! They made our stay worth it. We paid $129 (plus taxes) for a king room and it had a whirlpool tub. Not the cleanest bathroom, the room was dated, but it was alright for a night. I wouldn't pay $129 for it again - maybe $90. They did offer continental breakfast, but we did not try it.

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Unfortunately I neglected to read the trip reviews before booking a room in this hotel. As others have noted the train tracks run right behind the hotel with trains running throughout the night. It was impossible to sleep. On check-in they have you initial next to a statement that indicates you are aware of the train tracks - the front desk said this is so that you can't complaing about it! Of course had I known about the train tracks I would never have reserved a room at this hotel to begin with. But at 7:00 at night I didn't want to try to find another hotel in the area that might have a room so we decided to make the best of it and stay. Needless to say we did not get much sleep.

One of the things I enjoy while traveling is a nice cup of coffee in my room when I wake up before venturing down to the breakfast area. I noted when we arrived that there was a coffee pot but no coffee in the room. Also, the condiments packages had been previously opened and used! I contacted the front desk and the receptionist was very unhelpful. she "looked" for coffee but was unable to find any and kept telling me that I could just get coffee in the lobby in the morning. I suggested she contact her manager to find out where the coffee was stored and she refused saying she could only call her manager for an emergency. Another guest checking in at that time indicated that he had had this problem on a previous visit to this hotel.

The next morning, at breakfast, there was no milk! NONE! I approached the front desk to let them know there was no milk and was told they already knew that and someone had gone to get some. But when I asked how long that would take (since I had an appointment I had to get to) they said they had no idea!
Of course there was other food to eat, but only a very poorly run hotel would run out of milk for breakfast, IMO!

I would definitely not stay here again!

  • Liked — the pool was ok.
  • Disliked — The train tracks behind the hotel.

We needed a room in Manhattan on short notice and this was the only place we could find one. The room was clean and the staff was friendly, but there was a railroad track just outside the window of our room with regular trains passing through. Since the primary reason we booked a room was to have aplace to sleep and since it was very difficult to sleep with the trains rumbling by through the night, I give it the lowest rating.
