“Take a jog off I70 to Lucas, Kansas. It's worth it!!!!”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Take a job off 170 and head to the Garden of Eden in Lucas, Kansas. The deter is well worth it! At the age of 64, S.P. Dinsmoor, a retired English teacher, started building the Garden of Eden. His log cabin home is flanked by a concrete testament to his beliefs about religion and politics. It's quirky, to say the very least, just like the guy who built it. In his 80s, he married a lass in her 20s and together they had a child. Don't miss the tour--with an added charge to see where he's buried.

“Loved It”

One of a few don't miss sites in this area. This was an interesting story. I am so glad I didn't miss stopping here. The guided tour was great. Must see this in person as photos cannot capture this! Don't miss all the sites in this town. So fun

“Weird and Wonderful”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

I 70 is a long straight road headed through Kansas. It features lots of billboards trying to lure you to attractions that will relieve your boredom and give you a chance to stretch your legs. The Garden of Eden doesn't have much for publicity, but it's really fun, and Lucas now has a few complimentary attractions to make this a fun expedition.
The Garden of Eden is an American Folk Art treasure. Its creator crafted his religious and political visions out of concrete after he was in his 60s. It's tempting to skip spending $7 for the tour, but for the full flavor and impact of the experience go on inside for a lecture and to ask questions. Weirdly, you can opt to go into the mausoleum and see Dinsmore himself, looking a little moldy.
Get directions from there to the town center and enjoy the recently constructed public toilets. These are free and worth many minutes of gazing, picture taking, and exclamations.
Just two doors away is a meat market with a very entertaining owner and good meats and cheeses as well. We took away sausage and cheese for a yummy lunch.
Finally, there is a folk arts center which we did not take the time to visit. Possibly this is a treasure as well, but we decided to save it for another day. There is only so much odd that one can stand in one day.

“Quirky view of turn of the century folk art”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Located 15 min north of I-70 the Garden of Eden is a tribute to the egotistical mind of its creator Mr DInsmore. It is however worth the trip and is an interesting look at the politics and emotions of the period of its creation. Mr Dinsmore had something to say and wanted his opinions to outlast his life so he created them in concrete mixed to his own special recipe designed to last a millennium. Please take the tour of the house and listen to the guide's descriptions. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Kohler foundation for renovating and preserving the site. Be sure to look at the miniature creations of another folk artist located on the side of the house and yard which are also quite interesting.
