On a recent Saturday night, prior to seeing a movie at the nearby theater, we opted to give California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) a shot over our typical "go-to's" in the area. CPK seemed a bit lighter on traffic and neither of us had been to one in some itme. Although there was no wait, there was enough activity in regular dining that the host sat us at a high-boy in the bar - which was perfectly fine with us - often times we prefer the bar anyway. What was not fine was the fact that 12 minutes after being sat, we had not so much as received a hello or a glass of water from any server - this, despite the fact that a server had stopped by the table behind us twice! In a very rare decision, we opted to give up the table and leave for the eatery across the street.
On our way out, we did take the time to let the host stand know we were leaving and why. I am not sure if the host quickly let the manager know what had occured, or if the manager happened to see it - either way, however, the manager followed us across the street to our table at the next eatery to apologize and offer a free meal credit if we wanted to stop back in after our meal. While any follow-up is better than none, we did not have the time before the movie to stop back in for the credit, and with plenty of other great restaurants in the immediate area, will just not be returning to CPK any time in the future.
They may very well have good food and perhaps even decent service on occasion, but with this instance - no service, no thank you was the verdict!
