The staff was very friendly, professional, and accommodated my room requests. Everything was impeccable, from the room to the service in the Jayhawker. The location is perfect, as it's in the heart of historic downtown Lawrence. I can't imagine ever staying anywhere else when visiting Lawrence.

A friend and I had some time to kill before driving back to KC. and we struck up a conversation with Eric behind the front desk. He was very knowledgeable of Lawrence and the history of the Eldridge Hotel. He invited us to sit in the cozy lobby near the fireplace where we learned about this historic hotel. Although we didn't stay here, I will the next time we're back in Lawrence! Thank you Eric, we had a blast!

Here's what I like about this hotel: (1) location in downtown Lawrence is great. Lots of stores and restaurants within walking distance. University is walkable if you like a small jaunt. (2) dining room was surprisingly good and reasonable. Great fish for dinner and huge inexpensive breakfast. (3) front desk people really nice.
Okay, what I didn't like: (1) somehow they lost my reservation that was booked on line. I had paperwork to prove it but tough start. (2) Had "executive" room and it did have semi-sitting room area but bed was on the small side and room was not spacious (I'd skip having the 2 tvs in favor of more free space!). Room clean if not well appointed. We had to ask for coffee/hot water maker which they brought but no cups. Don't count on many bathroom amenities if you care (I don't). If you have long legs be forewarned that bathroom is tiny once door closed. (3) the noise. In fairness to the Eldridge, the room comes equipped with ear plugs and a white noise maker. They acknowledge it is an old building with thin walls and it does face downtown streets. In addition to the constant street noise, one night we were there (a Thursday...plan ahead) is half priced martini night in their bar. So the noise really spills onto the street. Moreover, the couple staying in the room next to us apparently enjoyed a few martinis and when they came upstairs, well, their romantic life was our lack of sleep. Would I stay there again? depends on my choices.

Room Tip: well at least try to avoid Massachusetts Ave. It's not like your view will be great anyway. If y...

We have stayed at the Eldridge for over 5 years now...everytime we go to Lawrence to visit KU. We love the hotel's Civil War history and the convenience of walking out the door and finding good restaurants and shops all along the main street. You have to drive to the university...and deal with parking..... but we love the atmosphere of this history laden building! Be warned....the rooms are older, but they are nicely upgraded and are very clean. Prices go up on weekends( basketball games) and If you face the main street it can get rowdy/noisy depending on how much the students are fired up. That's why noise machines are in every room...it is quieter facing the back of the hotel so request those rooms. Valet parking only. The restaurant is good....breakfast is more pricey than quick food, as customary in any upscale hotel, but service is good and they have nicer selections. Starbucks is right across street and other diners are within easy walking distance. Now....there is also some ghost activity reported on 5th floor( I am NOT MAKING THIS UP..go to the hotel sitefor more) so if you are "sensitive" you might avoid that floor rooms. We did have 2 unusual experiences in 512 and 506...but it makes for a good story. We will continue to book at the Eldridge...and soak up the atmosphere of a great college town.

Room Tip: for quieter nights ask for view of back of hotel...and be aware that the 5th floor is haunted

Everything was good except they put us in a room that faced Massachusetts Street, and the room had no shades to prevent the light from coming in off the street and store lights, so subsequently is was about as bright in the room as leaving the lights on. Thus no sleep. We were in room 205, so if you get that room, you are in trouble on sleep unless they fix it. Otherwise the hotel is delightful.

Room Tip: Don't pick Room 205

We only stayed in this hotel one night, but we really enjoyed it. Very nice, very clean and the staff was all very friendly. Very convenient to walk to shopping, restaurants, cafe's and bars. Nice restaurant and bar in the hotel. Very upscale yet very comfortable and relaxing. Would definitely like to go back.

A very charming hotel with a touch of old times... Also excellent rooms. Located down town lovely Lawrence with Starbucks coffee close by..couldn't ask for more. However be aware that noisy trains pass through Lawrence at night - how ever I was in a good mood and found it romantic....
