Stayed here after a KU basketball game. Had a king room with a view of the partially iced over river and total cost was $182.37. For that price I just can’t recommend the hotel.

The thing I like best about the room was the DirecTV. Most rooms come with high def. televisions now but their cable or satellite service is not high def. The DirecTV in the rooms was High Def. Still not worth the price but something I like. I hate a room with a High def. TV but regular cable.

The breakfast was average. Nothing special.

Trying to stay positive.......The view of the river in the morning was entertaining. I seen a bald eagle fishing. Also you can walk to the area where the bars are for some after game drinking.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view. I seen a Bald Eagle fishing.

I agree with everyone else on this being a perfect location for visiting KU. Quick drive to Mass Street. Bed was actually great. We had a bit of problem regulating our room temperature. It was either way to cold or way to hot. We did hear a train most of the night so next time I stay here I will ask for a room on the opposite end of the hotel. Staff was great. Rock Chalk - Jay-hawk!

This is a hotel that we have stayed at 10+ times over the past several years. There are many positives about this hotel including the location (excellent for heading to Mass St and Free State Brewery etc), the staff are very helpful and well trained, the view out the back is unique (this past weekend, there were 6-7 bald eagles fishing on the partially frozen river bed), the breakfast is usually very good, and the rooms are clean. Those are the reasons why we keep coming back (that and that we usually use points/certificates for a free night).

However, the past two times we have stayed at the SHS Lawrence, the air conditioner was broken (93 when we entered room; 93 when we came back from dinner) or the hot water was dysfunctional (30 sec of luke-warm water followed by ice cold water). If I take a shower at 5:30am, there should be plenty of hot water - however, this was not the case Sat/Sun mornings.

Small notes: Beer at the Store Front is reasonably priced; the gym is also mediocre at best.

We continue to stay here because of all of the positives but it is surprising that such systemic problems (AC; hot water) seem to crop up routinely. However, we are coming back to Lawrence in a few weeks and they are charging $299/night (versus the usual $120-150/night) - and at that rate we are happy to move to another hotel.

We had a free night from Marriott that was about to expire, so we took an overnight to Lawrence. I remember when this was the outlet mall, they said that was about 10 years ago! Obviously Marriott has several layers of hotels based on accommodations and price. You get what you pay for. The towels are thinner, the bathtub/shower more spartan, bathroom grout a little more dirty, and "suite" more dorm room than suite, but hospitality and friendliness were typical Marriott...above and beyond.
Check in - smooth, friendly and accurate
Room - not as big as hoped. 1/2 wall separate bed from couch, one TV that swiveled between the two, mini-bar type kitchen (sink, small fridge and small microwave). Overlooks the river.
Breakfast - the usual, hot and cold items.
Recreation - we used the weight room, 1 treadmill, 1 bike, 2 ellipticals and a set of free weights. A warm indoor pool and jacuzzi. (I also did a run on the levy trail, across the river)
Free parking and very close (walkable) to the shops and restaurants on Massachusetts.

Where my wife and I like to stay when back in Lawrence from our college days. Location is close to all restruants and bars on Mass st. Hotel is a former mall so rooms and lobby are a bit odd, but otherwise clean and comfortable. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

I recently took my daughter and her friend to Lawrence for one night to visit KU. We stayed at the SpringHill Suites because of the great location and the discount they gave us for doing a KU tour. Our room was a very nice size with a separate sitting area with its own tv and little bar area. Great for watching a different show then the girls and/or just having an area away from the beds.

The lobby/eating area was nice and loved the complimentary all day coffee, hot chocolate, and water. Great for warming up on a very cold day.

The only negative was the girl who checked us in and out. She obviously did not want to be there and although she did her job... it was without a smile. Not a great welcome.

Room Tip: We stayed on the main level and it was great. I'm sure all of the rooms are similar.

We spent 3 nights at the Riverfront SpringHill Suites hotel. The hotel's lobby is on the top floor as the hotel drops from the street level to the river level. I am not sure what this looks like in summer, but in winter, the river was practically non-existent. The hotel itself is very nice. Breakfast is excellent. The rooms are very spacious though room heating was a bit of a challenge. We used the pool and workout room, both of which were on the better side of average. The hotel staff was helpful and very friendly. As we visit Lawrence often, we plan on staying here again.
