Review of Liberty Hall

This old building has character. And, the films are top rate: good foreign films, great independent offerings and timely documentaries. Ticket prices are modest. Admittedly, the seats are not the most comfortable and the sound quality could be improved - but, you don't have to pay exorbitant amounts for the simple pleasure of having a beer or glass of wine while enjoying a superb flick. (Hey, it's standard across much of Europe - but a relatively pricey rarity in the U.S.) Finally, Tuesday is a two-for-one deal - with the price of a single ticket already a deal.

This is the best place to see live music in Lawrence, Kansas. A classic old theater in the heart of downtown. It's also a film theater that runs mostly art and independent films. Drinks and snacks are reasonably priced, nothing like at commercial movie theaters, and you can even have a beer or latte to take to your seat. Treat yourself to any kind of a show at Liberty Hall.

Liberty Hall is the site of numerous historic concerts. The old timers will remember it as the Red Dog Inn, where bands like the Red Dogs, King Midas and the Mufflers, High John and White Clover, the predecessor to Kansas, played to overflow crowds. The 1912 Opera House was restored to its original glory in 1986 and now plays host to many live events and shows movies regularly. Liberty Hall is one of the only places in Kansas where you can have popcorn and a beer while watching avant garde movies.

I've been to see movies in their theater probably 4 times. The only bad part is the seats are rock hard to young, and old it is painful! They do have a bar for the movie theater, and another for tge concert hall. I've been to the concert hall part to see bands or movies 4 times also.the acoustics aren't the best, but the people are friendly, and cool, and the events are always fun. The building is very ornate.

Liberty Hall is located on the main drag of Lawrence and is a beautiful old theatre. They have concerts, movies and various fundraisers at the theatre. I love the architecture and all the murals. The one bad thing is the seating was put in when americans were not as tall so the leg room is a little lacking. The theatre has taken out some row of seats to give more room to some of the seats. They serve alcohol which is nice for a date night movie. They own a coffee house next door and you can bring it into the theatre. The workers are extremely laid back and friendly. The theatre tends to get the independent movies. Just saw Much Ado About Nothing there and loved it. Have seen Sara Bareilles in concert at Liberty Hall and really enjoyed the small venue for a concert. If you have a chance to go to this theatre, do it.
