“New, Modern, But Very Noisy”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

Overall this hotel is actually very nice and a different model from the typical HI Express you'll stay at. But exterior road noise detracts from this being a top-rated property.

The hotel is locating in a developing area, far enough away from "problem" areas of KC yet still close to most anything in either KC KS or KC MO. There is an evening security guard manning the first floor which is unusual, but a comforting factor since after dark it can be a bit dodgy.

Having a 5 Guys burger joint in the lobby is far out, and convenient to get a great burger if you are hungry.

However be aware that Rainbow Blvd is a very busy 4-lane road with lots of traffic particularly during morning and evening rush. It dies down later in the evening, but a traffic light in front of the hotel can be bothersome with cars and trucks starting and stopping constantly. The hotel is not very well insulated from this road noise, so strongly advise you request a room facing the back parking lot.

Also be aware there is a new building just starting to be constructed immediately adjacent to hotel which is probably going to take a year or 2 to complete. Again, this will add to the exterior noise so avoid the front of the hotel and the north side facing the construction and get a room facing the parking lot.

Beyond this, the hotel is actually impressive, with all the modern and new HI Express decor and amenities.

I especially want to shout out to the front desk staff who are exceptionally nice and professional, and in particular went above and beyond in assisting me with an unfortunately incident in the middle of the night requiring me to change rooms.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room facing the parking lot (in back) because outside noise from Rainbow Blvd a...

My wife and I stayed at the new Holiday Inn Express near the KU Medical Center for an overnight getaway. An open two story lobby lead to a second floor registration desk that gives you the feeling of a large city location. We were continually engaged by the friendly staff throughout our stay. The rooms were very spacious and the décor was more than expected with a modern/upscale feel. Although close to the Plaza and Downtown, we decided to stay in the 39th Street neighborhood which was filled with eclectic shops and local/independent restaurants and was within easy walking distance of the hotel. We will be recommending this location to anyone staying in the area! Thanks again to the staff!

Room Tip: King Suites are very spacious and include a walk-in shower

I heard about this brand new Holiday Inn Express and decided to give it a try since it was convenient to my client's office in KC, Kansas. I am a big fan of the HI Express chain and was not disappointed with this one. Although it appears to be brand new, the front desk staff were well trained, professional and very friendly, especially considering I arrived at 10:30pm. The room was large and well appointed with lots of conveniently located electrical outlets. The bathroom was very interesting and unique with a doorless shower stall. The breakfast area was bright and roomy, with the breakfast items diverse and well-stocked. All of employees I encountered were super friendly, from the front desk staff, to the breakfast area personnel, to the security guard who greeted me as I headed to the parking lot after checking out. I'll definitely stay there again any time I'm in the area.

Can't say enough good things about this place. Here are a few highlights:

1) The staff rocks! I'm writing this from my VERY QUIET room right now thanks to Jimmy at the front desk! There was a ridiculously loud party going on in a room near us, but the staff and security got it resolved so quickly! I can seriously hear a pin drop right now...and about 30 min ago I could've sworn I was in a bar! Jimmy called to make sure I was happy, and he explained to me that they'd given the party one more chance and warned them that if they acted up again they'd be asked to leave AND they'd be paying for the rooms of anyone who checked out early because of the noise. That's what I'm talking about!

2) Great parking: Free surface lot AND secured underground garage for those who prefer it. Tons of space and really easy in/out to a major road.

3) Decent little breakfast spread...wasn't crowded at all either day.

4) Fast, reliable WIFI in rooms, plus two computers in the lobby AND a free printer for those last-minute work/school things (or boarding passes, etc).

5) Nice location. 15 minutes to downtown, but really removed form the hustle and bustle. TONS of great little restaurants. We used a certain app (starts wit a YEL) to find 4 awesome spots within a mile. This place is really well located.

I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a spot near, but not in, downtown.

Room Tip: Choose a room far from the elevator...it's pretty noisy.

I stayed at this hotel in mid September for work . I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know, that will be needing a room in the area . I checked in later in the day after a very long drive . The front desk attendant was very professional and friendly. The way he was, started my trip off perfectly and it just got better from there.I was pleasantly surprised how nice the rooms were. When I came down for breakfast the next morning ,I was greeted by a second crew that was just as pleasant and that continued into the breakfast area. The lady there made sure she met with eveveryone and told them to have a wonderful day, after she helped them with breakfast. I have to work long hours and it is very nice to see someone smile and ask if you had a wonderful day. I also like the option of parking your car down in the secured garage. I would say over all this hotel is great and will stay again . My experience there was just awesome. I would like to thank the staff and management for a wonderful stay.
