Owner description: Travel 650 feet underground into an active salt mine! Experience a cool and soothing subterranean world formed by salt deposits in the Permian Sea long ago. See the raw mine as it was left more than 50 years ago on the Salt Mine Express train ride and catch a guided tour on a tram to the Dark Ride. You won't want to miss a special gallery filled with authentic movie costumes and memorabilia. And don't miss the SALT SAFARI add on tour. A one hour guided adventure tour that goes BEYOND STRATACA. See salt formations not available to the general public until now! Limited capacity -- only 12 visitors at a time depart 3-4 times a day.

We took our grandchildren there. Our grandson has worn his Salt Rocks t-shirt until it is about worn out. They all want to go back. We hear that they have done some extensive work on it and we are going to go back when the grandchildren get out of school for the summer.

My family (wife and 9 year old daughter) really enjoyed our time here. One of those "had no idea that was there" kind of places. The salt mine areas/exhibits are fun and informative and the train ride/tour through some other areas of the mine was also nice.

The use of the mines as an archive storage facility was especially intriguing to us. Though you barely scratch the surface of seeing what is stored there, some of the stories from the guides around just how much is stored there and some of the history of the type of items stored there were very interesting.

Overall it's well worth a visit.

It is so cool to see what they have stored down there. The tour was interesting a bit scary. The mines go on for miles. Loved the movie artifacts. Seeing Superman and Batman's uniforms were really a highlight. Got to bring back a lump of salt!

It is not what you would expect from a mine. I have visited other mines before and being 6'3" it is easy to get a headache from all the bumps. The salt mine has huge hallways and there is no issue with standing room. Good news for those scared of creepy crawlies. Because of the salt there is no animal/insect life. If you are trying to decide between doing it or not, choose Do it!

650 feet into the ground in a dark old style elevator! Thus begins the adventure. A very well done exhibit and museum. Full of fun facts and original old equipment that has been left in the mine. Even the trash! The guides are very friendly and informative. Very much worth stopping to visit.
