“Clean, Quiet Place to Stay”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

I was a little concerned when I first pulled in, but relieved when we went into the room, finding it very clean and ultimately quiet. No frills, but just what we needed on the way back home to Colorado.

Worked fine for what we needed. Pillows sucked-I didn't know you could buy ones that small. Clean room, hot water (that's my hot button), would stay again. If you want nice and fancy, this is not it. For the price, will stay again

After googling several hotels in Hays, I decided that bang for the buck, the America's Best Value Inn would be one. We got a decent price, the front desk lady was equal to her task, and we were favored with a ground floor room. The room was clean, a little tired, but very decent. I'd recommend it if you weren't looking for a 4 or 5 star room and just needed to shower and rest. Try it, I think it would work.

Inexpensive but well maintained, with an efficient, professional staff. This motel filled the bill for an overnight stay with a little flexibility for local tourism. Room size stops just short of seeming cramped. Mine with a single queen bed still had space for an easy chair and a CRT television in a shelving unit. A refrigerator and microwave were stacked underneath the clothes rack that serves in place of a closet, but the convenience of those amenities outweighed the lack of clothes-hanging space. The tub-shower and toilet are separated from the wash basin in a tiny corner chamber, in which one must take care not to step into the toilet when exiting the shower. The towels were a bit thin and frayed, but the bed linens were of decent quality. The room was clean.

Vine Street (US 183) is an ugly strip of fast food and automotive retail outlets with a lot of traffic. However, the motel is arranged in a horseshoe. Units that face the street are set back from the road and also protected from noise by the motel office. The two side wings of the motel run perpendicular to the street. My room was in a side wing, and I was not bothered by street sounds. Helping reduce noise also is the cemetery directly across the street, the ultimate in quiet neighbors. Sound insulation in the motel itself is not great, and as is true in any accommodation, the peacefulness of your stay may depend on the considerateness of your neighbors. Also, the back part of the motel has two storeys, so you may end up with neighbors on three sides. For first-floor guests, parking is available directly in front of your room.

Some notes on nearby food and attractions: Hays is not a restaurant town. After a day behind the wheel I preferred to eat somewhere close by, so for dinner I walked to the strip mall next door to the motel and ate at Jalisco’s Mexican Restaurant. The food was OK. The atmosphere was, well, like a strip mall. Breakfast is not included with the stay, and I had difficulty finding a place to eat other than the drive-through fast food places on Vine Street and the doughnut shop in downtown Hays. I ended up buying a few breakfast items at Dillon’s Supermarket a few blocks south of the motel. If you have the time, the Fort Hays historic site is well-curated and worth a visit. Also, the campus of Fort Hays State University, across the bypass from the site of the old fort, has some interesting old Kansas limestone buildings. The university does not restrict visitor traffic through the campus.

Room Tip: If you get an outward-facing room in the north wing of the motel, there is less parking congestion t...

We were in town for Fort Hays State University's homecoming weekend and stayed here and had a good experience. Check-in staff was very friendly. Room was good-sized, and VERY clean. Nice Oxygenics showerhead with curved shower curtain rod. Comfortable bed with 4 pillows. Had room-darkening curtains that really WORK. We had an issue with the heater in the room, but the manager cheerfully addressed it (GREAT customer service from the manager). If you have a ground floor room, the parking is directly in front of your room, so it makes unpacking/packing easy. There is a Walgreens directly next door to the hotel (convenient to pick up anything you've forgotten), and there are lots of restaurants and shopping on the same street as the hotel. Not far from the university, yet close to the conveniences of Hays. Great hotel for the price!!!!

This is an older hotel but a great stay at a great price. In some of the other reviews it mentioned updated, newly renovated rooms, I did not get one of those rooms but I wasn't disappointed. My room was very clean and had everything that I needed. The tv, microwave, and fridge were out-dated but all worked and fulfilled their purposes. It was a little noisy because the room doors don't open up into an enclosed hallway. However, it made loading and unloading your bags very easy by being able to park right outside your room door.

pleasant suprise. i've stayed at the old hotel, but this was a treat. New nice bedding, sheet on top and bottom of blanket, nice touch!!! new everything in room . Clean pool and hot tubs and small work out rm. Pleasant helpful front desk. and the price well worth the 1mile trip of the interstate. I stay in Hays at least once a year on the way to colorado. as well as many members of my family, this is a great find at a reasonable rate. Flat screen TV, king beds and queen doubles. I travel alot and many hotels with bigger names and price tags don't measure up as well.
