Spent our last evening of our road trip in Hays, KS before returning home. This is our second stay at a Sleep Inn and will definitely stay again. Usually stay at Comfort Inn or Comfort Inn & Suites while out traveling, will add the Sleep Inn to our list. Great motel with friendly staff.

Our stay started out just fine, checking in quickly after a long day of driving through rough weather. Our two rooms were small but clean, but entirely devoid of amenities such as electrical outlets. That's fine; we just unplugged the TV and a few lamps and left our computers to charge with wires running all over the room. Which was great until around 5 AM the following morning when the skies opened up and cut managed to cut power to the hotel.

Fierce storms are rather common in KS, as we experience them every single time we've stayed in Hays. So we expect that local hotels would be used to this. But we were wrong. When the power went out, the advanced fire suppression system installed in the building apparently believed the building was on fire, causing the fire alarms throughout the building to sound. Waking up to the loudest sound you've ever heard is one thing. We waited for it to stop for a minute or so, but then, due to the abhorrently thin walls of the hotel we were easily able to hear the screams of fellow patrons in the hallways informing us of a tornado warning. This ended up being false, but we didn't know this at the time, and attempted to wake up enough just to run to the lobby with the rest of the guests. Typically, a fire alarm would mean you should exit the building; however doing so in a tornado may not be ideal.

Downstairs, the poor clerk was trying desperately to determine if there was actually a fire or tornado. Turns out there were neither, after enduring nearly 40 minutes of the screeching fire suppression system and clueless maintenance staff, who were unable to disable it.

By 6 AM we were back in our rooms, exhausted, and now sweltering due to the poor insulation of the building. With no power, and continued commotion in the hall, sleeping at this Sleep Inn wasn't to be had.

The power eventually returned, we napped for an hour or two, then went to check out. We mentioned the night's events to the manager, who stared blankly at us. "Well, the storm isn't OUR fault!" she blared. No, it wasn't, but the ineptitude at running their building, not knowing the operation of their advanced fire system, and not treating customers with respect was. Like the power hasn't gone out before?

We asked for compensation. "I don't think so," she snapped. I informed her that was ridiculous, that they needed to understand their building's systems. "Well what do you want then?" I asked for one of our rooms free, since we only got about half a night's sleep. She laughed. Eventually, she offered $5 off each.

So if the sun is shining without a cloud in sight, no other guests are on your floor, and the price is free, stay at the Sleep Inn. If you'll sleep through a world war, maybe this hotel is for you. Otherwise, stay far, far away. We know we'll never go back!

We stayed one night while driving to Denver largely because of favorable reviews on this site. Overall, disappointing. Place seems rundown somehow. Beds were uncomfortable. Workout room was tiny, internet access limited to one old computer. Not a bad place, but just okay.

My husband and I stayed at the Sleep Inn & Suites, Hays, KS on our way to Colorado in August 2008. The hotel was super easy to find and was within walking distance of at least two restaurants. The staff was extremely friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The pool and whirlpool area was small but very nice. The continental breakfast was standard with muffins, bagels, waffles, fruit, cereal, juice, coffee, etc. We would definitely stay again when passing through on I-70.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way home from the Rocky Mountains and loved it. Maybe it's not a 4 star hotel, but it was clean and comfortable, and for the price I'd consider it excellent. Our room was very large, I think partially because we were at the end of the hall next to the stairwell. We had 2 queen beds, a pull-out couch, a work desk plus another table and coffee table (plus fridge and microwave). All of this for only $100 (with AAA)! Maybe it was the time change but both my wife and I slept great - my wife said it was her best night of sleep of our trip. I thought the continental breakfast was also good - biscuits and gravy, waffles, plus the usual items of muffins, bagels and cereal. The front desk folks were friendly and helpful. We were traveling with another family and we had requested the same type of room. It turned out their room was no where near as large as ours. But the hotel staff showed our friends the other open rooms and they found a larger one. The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub, plus there is wi-fi in the rooms and if you don't have your own computer there's one available across from the pool.

We made reservations in Hays and stayed the night. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows were horrible. The hotel was clean and breakfast was ok. Don't think we would stay here again.

Nice stay, but definately just average. The beds are slightly on the hard side, making them a bit uncomfortable. My husband nor I slept well. The breakfast ran out of stuff early and when we asked for it to be restocked, it took forever and the staff acted like we were disrupting their morning. The noise throughout the hotel was very disturbing. You could hear everything. But, on the good side, the hotel was clean and our kids slept well. The swimming pool area was also nice and clean and it is in a convenient location to the interstate.
