“What else would you do on a hot summers day?”

The Big Pool: World's Largest Hand Dug Swimming Pool
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This is a fun place for children to run wild and parents to enjoy the quirky things Garden City has to offer. It's right by the zoo and museum so before swimming you can venture to see some animals and learn more about the history of this city. It's a big pool so the water doesn't warm up very fast, if at all, during the summer. There is a concession stand for snacks and a bathroom with changing rooms inside. The price is cheap, you can get a summer pass, and you do have to pay extra for the water slides.

This pool is what makes the extreme temperatures of summer bearable! This is the best summer entertainment for $1.00 for MILES AROUND! The unruly kids are part of the fun. The lifeguards are more vigilant than it appears. They wear t-shirts that say, "Sitting on ours to save yours". I wouldn't want their job. I truly love the BIG POOL!

Too many unruly kids. Lifeguards seem not to pay attention to kids in the pool. They are too interested in visiting. Showers and restrooms are outdated and not very clean.

Its is or at one time was the largest free concrete swimming pool in the United states. It is big, but well staffed with life guards and staff. The changing rooms are a little dated, but the pool has a variety of depths and several different diving boards. Located in a beautiful city park and right next to a very nice zoo. The Zoo is the best one in Western KANSAS AND THERE ARE SOME LOVELY FLOWER GARDENS AND PICNIC AREAS in the city park adjacent to the swimming pool.

We came through just to see this pool from Oklahoma. I was glad we did. My very short young grandson loved it. We were able to be in an enormous span of waist deep water while he played and splashed around. There is an area off from the main pool just for little ones to slide and play and it was wonderful. The admission price was unbelieveable just a couple bucks......really.......the only complaint was we weren't aware of lifeguard beak time. The pool is cleared out for at least 15 mins. or so for lifeguard breaks or changes I'm not sure what. Everyone is made to get out of the pool in the middle of the afternoon. We were on a limited time schedule so this cut into our swim time and was dissappointing. But it really is a specai place the deeper water is sectioned off away from the waist deep area and both areas are huge! Would definatley try to go back when we have all day.....
