The Lord Clyde does the most amazing food. It isn't the biggest place in the world, or the cheapest but you seriously get what you pay for at this place. The chef is a genius and i highly recommend you try this place, you will not regret it.

This is one of our locals and a lunch-time favourite of ours. The staff are always welcoming, friendly and informative. The cuisine is extremely good thanks to two very good chefs, Gareth and Luke, who will go out of their way to make sure everything is exactly to your liking. The ambience is always relaxed and a delight to say hello to old chums or meet new friends. A very good place to be. Go there!

Had a very nice meal here. Service was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food was very nice too. Booking is essential I'd say, as it's a small place, but we'll definitely be booking again.

This small pub has the most delicious food. There is a limited menu, but had a board of specials. My husband had the pork chop, belly pork with apple crumble, and savoy cabbage. The cabbage was absolutely delicious, the pork beautifully cooked. I had rib of beef, roast potatoes, roast vegetables, yorkshire pud, and green beans. I was asked how i wanted my beef cooked and it came perfectly medium rare.
Desserts of salted caramel panacotta for me, and treacle tart for hubby, were just as delicious.
The food was complemented by a well kept pint of beer, and excellent wine by the glass.
The service was really good too, and although we had to wait for a table, it was worth the wait. It is probably advisable to book in advance, but they made every effort to accommodate us without a booking.
It is a little pricey for a pub, but when you taste the food, you realise why. We will be returning.

The Lord Clyde is a Tardis in reverse. From the outside it gives the impression of an average country pub but on entering it is much smaller than imagined with a scattering of tables set for meals. There is a small bar counter with a selection of only three or four choices of draft beers. A small standing area and a few bar stools do not leave much scope for this to be considered a "local". Don't go looking for a dart board or pool table or a list of locally crafted ales vetted by CAMRA.
For us this was ideal! We had come off the hills and a pint of IPA was perfect while we perused the small but perfect menu. We had heard that the chef had established an excellent reputation in the North West and it was immediately apparant that we were being offered food of good restaurant quality. My daughter, no stranger to fine cuisine, declared the pork cutlets and accompanying pork belly to be the best she had tasted and I, who have never knowingly not ordered liver when offered it, had the best lamb's liver and onion gravy I have experienced although a bit more cream in the mashed potatos would have been appreciated Other choices enjoyed by our party were crisp skinned sea bass and asparagus salad with deep fried whole chicken egg. The whole atmosphere is quite intimate because of the size of the restaurant/pub and the service was exceptional with the young lady running the front of the house taking time to advise each table and make them feel at home.
So, the big question. Pub or restaurant? It is a gastropub, that new breed where you expect the food to be of top quality served in the atmosphere of a pub but without the drawbacks of fellow customers there just for the beer.
