We were planning to stay here for a week to visit my grandma in Indpendence. Would have stayed somewhere else, but everywhere else was booked because of Neewollah. 4 nights into our weeklong stay, a family friend offered to have us stay at her farm. When we tried to check out they would not give us a refund for the nights we would not be staying. We expected to pay the nightly rate instead of the weekly rate, but that meant they still owed us $200. According to their contract - and this is a single line item: "NO REFUNDS. (WEEKLY RATES-AFTER THREE (3) DAYS NO REFUNDS). WILL CHARGED REG. THEN REFUND." It would have been one thing if they were nice about it - but getting hysterical at us for calling this out as confusing and unfair was uncalled for. When we went to check in I had thought he knew about our two dogs since I had told him over the phone when making the reservation. He didn't, so I told him after he gave me the charged CC (yes, they charge the card at the start of your stay, not at the end). He got mad at me for not telling him and making him go back to the register to charge us more money. Seriously, he's getting more money, why would you get mad at someone over this?
Should have known this place had some questionable policies when we were told not to cook in our rooms, and yet there was a microwave and refrigerator (both unplugged).
Other terrible things about this place: If you are on the bottom floor, you will hear every footstep from the person above you - the floors squeak like an old haunted house. The carpets seems pretty dingy, they gave us three pillows on a king for two people, no extra blankets, no closet, the TV was situated too far away in the room to be easily viewable, there was some sort of refinery a stone's throw away, there was a test of the emergency notification system while we were at the hotel which was a little alarming. Finally, mostly the other people who were staying at this hotel were road crew and pipeline workers, meaning they all had large trucks so when we came in later at night there was never any parking near our room.
We decided to stay here even though it had bad reviews on google. The only other open hotel was the Schwinn Motel, which had no reviews. Next time I'll go for no reviews over bad reviews. My advice: stay somewhere else. When you are traveling and staying in hotels, you really don't want to stay in a place where the establishment is not on your side - and seems to be on the lookout to take your money for nothing.
