The tour was very interesting - a medieval manor in the backwaters near Taunton. Very nice gardens and intriguing stories.
Downside : pricey (about 12 pounds each with the tour of the house) and no credit cards accepted yet... and no discounts for OAPs or children. Too much really but the guide (half the cost) was very good.

We went there with a party on a wonderful summer day. The house is fascinating and the tour guide really knowledgeable. The lunch and tea were excellent and substantial but not gourmet.
The garden was for us the best bit – so many different garden rooms, each hidden from the others by high yew hedges. At every turn were clever plantings, unusual plants, interesting ornaments and containers. My favourite was the garden planted entirely with Nepeta and abuzz with bees and other insects. The owners were welcoming and friendly without being overly present, encouraging us to wander freely through the garden.

I have been to Cothay Manor twice in the last year, and both times the owner was utterly charming. The first time she personally showed us round the garden after it had officially closed, and the second time I went on a course which was really worth while. I am looking forward to another course in April. It is a magical place, with delightful people and good food.

A lovely, really old house.A lavender pathway to the front door, where you are asked to put on plastic covers over you shoes.Beautifully kept and lived in.Also a small ,nice cafe at the rear.

This garden is amazing, however our visit was entirely soured by the owners attitude to children. Gardens are not for playing in apparently, even the lawns. It wasn't busy and my little boy and husband were having a game of hide and seek when she quite aggressively told my little boy (then 6) off.
The cafe is also totally disorganised having no cold drinks on offer on a hot day in June and very little choice of food.
