The Chequers is a very picturesque thatched inn in open country side.We have previously been here quite a lot so it seemed the ideal place for my husbands birthday meal. There were 5 of us and we were shown to our pre booked table on arrival. We were given menu's and our selections soon made. The 'specials board' that used to cover the chimney breast has gone and when we asked why we were told there were too many microwaved meals before and now they were concentrating on fresh food. Our meals arrived. My chicken breast wrapped in asparagus and bacon was served with fresh veg and potatoes as was my son's lamb shank. My husband had gammon steak which he said was wonderful and was served with the most enormous chips. Our other two guests has had pie and mash and lasagne which I was told wasn't as good as mine! We all had puddings. The sweet menu could have been better. Most were either suet sponge puddings, ice creams or chocolate. My husband had chocolate mousse tart and I had apricot tart.Yummy! The puddings could have been lighter and more fresh fruit. Overall though it was a very good meal and we will definetly go back again.
