“Birthday weekend”
Reviewed October 25, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We had a lovely weekend at this lovely cottage. Arriving to homemade Welsh cakes and a bottle of bubbly for my birthday was a lovely surprise. Everything in the cottage was lovely. The weekend was topped of by fish and chips on the beach - perfect

Thanks so much for the lovely words. I am so glad that your Birthday at Bwthyn Derwen was memorable and very envious of the feast on the beach. Hope the Bubbly went down well with the chips! Thanks for staying at Borthwen Barns Bye Catherine

“Loved Our Stay on Stunning Anglesey”
Reviewed August 31, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We booked here for a family weekend and because it looked fabulous. The booking process was quite straightforward, although I wanted to pay all at once but the payment site was preset to the deposit amount only. The directions were spot on and the welcome of a bottle wine and homemade cake was lovely as was the butter, bread & milk.
The cottage itself is lovely, it's needs a bit of t&c to fix up and touch up some parts like the kickboards in the kitchen & the damp in the ensuite shower but they are minor repairs. The very creaky floor on the landing and spare room made us need all our expert creeping skills to not wake the kids and could do with fixing as it meant anyone getting up in the night woke everyone up despite the super snug duvets and pillows.
The views are breathtaking and the short walk to Borthwen Beach makes this a fantastic place to stay, we had a walled garden for the kids to play in and our own patio area to enjoy the last of the summer sun. There is another fab beach just around the bay at Church Bay and you are only a car ride away from Beaumaris and Rhosneigr among others. There's only really 2 restaurants nearby and they were both quite pricey and not really aimed at families however Holy Head had some lovely places (Langdons do amazing Calamari) as well Tesco etc to stock up on essentials or the Coffee Pot in the next village does good bacon and sausage.
Despite both brought up with open fires we could have done with instructions on using the log burner but between the 2 of us we managed to remember how to get a good fire going on the last night. Take slippers, it's a big old stone barn with stone floors that the underfloor didn't seem to heat consistently so you need warm feet although the underfloor in the kitchen was warm all day long. It was a lovely touch having the tea lights in the windows made for a magical movie night snuggled up on the huge sofa under duvets with the kids. The fact there's an xbox was a brilliant as was the DVD supply and board games, the TV signal is a little unpredictable but it doesn't matter because there's so much else to do.
We'll definitely be coming back to an amazing island and a lovely holiday cottage, thanks Catherine for making us feel welcome.

“Excellent”
Reviewed January 3, 2015 for a stay in December 2014

Stayed in 'Bwthyn Derwen' and the adjoining property, 'The Retreat' with our family (6 adults and 4 children in adjoining cottages) for a week over New Year.
Both properties were clean, warm, well equipped and very comfortable.
Close to a beach (5 minutes walk) good places close by for food/drink.
A welcome pack of wine and cake !

“A Different Class”
Reviewed May 30, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Initially I had some reservations over booking Bwthyn Derwen, first there
was no response to my 3 request for booking, the previous poor review and
then being advised the power would be off for one of the days.

My reservations all diminished once we arrived at the Barn, it’s a well layout
spacious, tastefully decorated and every need/ requirement considered for,
whether your wanting a relaxing or active break/holiday.

In this day and age people are so quick to complain yet slow to complement!!!

I can’t recommend this highly enough my wife, 11year old daughter and 1 year
old lab thoroughly enjoyed every minute. From walks on the beach, playing
boards games ( draws full of them) sat in front of the wood burner playing the
Xbox or just relaxing with a glass of wine its was simply perfect.( I better not
forget the power shower in the on-suite)

As clearly pointed out on the listing for the barn, the internet and mobile signal
Isn’t the greatest however this is was another added benefit to staying at
Bwthyn Derwen as you can really relax and unplug.

We will be booking again with question!!!!

Thank you so much for the great review which is very much appreciated! We are so very glad that you enjoyed your stay. Bwthyn Derwen is now on our new website and has online booking availability and payment facilities. As mentioned when we spoke, I have had some issues with the Holiday Lettings email enquiries being sent to my spam email box (upon investigation once pointed out the Holiday Lettings inform me that is an issue following a change to Google mail settings). This is now resolved so I am pleased to say that I am in receipt of all email enquiries now and respond immediately. I look forward to seeing you all again in the future at Bwthyn Derwen, and thanks again for taking the time to make such helpful and positive comments which make all the difference.

“Back in fine form, beautiful cottage in exceptional surroundings.”
Reviewed April 15, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Having put in a poor review of this cottage back in October 2013, we were invited to return and put our bad experience behind us, and how glad we were that we did just that. The cottage was clean with the welcome pack as described and all faults from our last visit had been eradicated. Everything was as it should be and we would definitely recommend the cottage to our friends. This is a beautiful part of the country and our enjoyable stay only enforced this.

“Wine, cake and log fire!”
Reviewed November 3, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Booked last minute to get away with Wife and teenage children, was the weekend of the 'Storm' and this made it all the better, the cold and wind made the cottage cosier, plenty of underfloor heating and a log fire warmed us and the cottage up!

Arrived late on the Friday night to be met with a gorgeous local cake and a bottle of Red! perfect, children loved it as had their own space and Xbox! alas the Wifi couldn't penetrate the 18" stone walls(Hurrah!!) so 2 x disconnected kids = 1 x fab game of Monopoly!

The cottage is superbly furnished and has a fully equipped kitchen including a neatly stored washing machine, tumble drier and freezer, bedrooms are beautifully set out with gorgeous linen and towelling. 5 minute stroll down to a fab beach with rocks, rock pools and caves! with plenty of great local (ish) pubs and a well stocked shop in the next village you'll have everything you need for a get-away-from-the-world break or with plenty to do locally an adventure get-away.

Just book and enjoy!

“Great location, but .....”
Reviewed October 7, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Initially the cottage looked clean, but upon further inspection there were cobwebs throughout. We were greeted with our welcome package of a local cake and bottle of wine - very welcome, but as we went to put the wine in the fridge door, the shelf gave way (wondered what the pieces of plastic were!) Luckily we were able to save the wine, but it was obvious that this shelf would be useless! Next problem occurred when we tried to get a pan from the pan drawer which would not open for the dishwasher handle. Eventually managed to get a pan, but when we wanted to load the dishwasher with our dirty pots, we then couldn't pull down the door because of the pan cupboard handle. Bad design flaw that didn't end there. Having eventually opened the dishwasher, the whole unit pulled forward as it wasn't fastened in - the door was scraping on the floor. We reported the problems to the owner first thing on Saturday morning, but had to live with this for all our holiday. To make matters worse because the door was constantly dragging on the floor, it eventually fell off completely.

All in all not the standards we would expect from a cottage costing £400 at this time of year.

Final point of clarification, the cottage is located on Anglesey not Holyhead.
