My stay at Longido camp was a pleasant trip back in time to the East Africa of the 1950's , well awahy from rthe husstle of modern Kenya and Tanzania. The accommodation surprisingly included the comforts of home, including shower and ensuite facilities. I also felt safe in my zipped up tent not that it is located in predator country. The scenery was spectacular, with wide plains, antelope, zebra and giraffe fairly close - perfect for great photography. .

An amazing luxury experience while still away from the usual tourist routes. This area of plains dotted by active volcanos and sunken calderas is magnificent, and puts you in mind of "King Solomon's Mines". Michelle was a wonderful and knowledgable host who explained and added context to all we saw, and was great at introducing us to the places and people near Lake Natron. By the end of our stay we felt very much a part of the family. We stayed in very comfortable tents, with Zanzibar style beds, bathroom en suite with clawed bath tubs, and an unforgettable view of mount Lengai. We rode on horseback across the plains under the puzzled gaze of giraffes, stood on 120,000 year old petrified footsteps of early man, visited mysterious ruined cities, had the head woman of a local Masai village show us her home and explain how she lived, purchased spears from young warriors, and had dinner outside, lit by the full moon. These are just a few of the most memorable moments of our stay. During the week we where there we saw no other tourists, and truly came to feel like we saw a very special slice of Tanzania. Mantheakis safaris was also brilliant at organizing the first part of our trip in the Serengeti. I highly recommend them for anyone planning a trip to Tanzania.

Room tip: All tents had great views

The Langai Camp is located in a superb area with a stunning view of the Oldoyo Lengai volcano. The position is absolutely magnificent, and the landscape from the camp is the closest to what I imagined of Hemingway’s descriptions in Green Hills of Africa.
Michel is the perfect host, who is able to conduct very interesting discussions on the country and the local related issues. He is a zoologist by education, so he can provide with great information about the animals of the area and the activities that can be conducted. He is a real gentlemen, capable to offer you the actual old African hospitality. All the staff of the camp is very friendly and professional.
The accommodations are gorgeous and perfectly decorated, with enormous space and very comfortable beds and bathroom. Plenty of electricity plugs are available with USB sockets for direct smartphone recharge. Satellite wifi is available and perfectly functioning. In the evening, the old stile table in the veranda offer a unique opportunity to look at the infinity.
Food and drinks were the best I had in my Tanzania holiday.
By quoting Hemingway: “If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa” and so the Lengai Camp.

I visited Africa with my wife and daughter this summer, staying for two weeks at Michel's Lengai/Natron area. It is magnificent. I have been to many countries in Africa and many places in Tanzania, and I think this is truly one of the most beautiful and authentic. The landscape, the animals, and the cultural experience are all spectacular. Michel has organized everything about the camp and the area brilliantly, and he has thought of everything - it was luxurious, but without diluting the experience of being in Africa; the food was delicious, whether full dinner or field cookout for lunch; and day trips or overnights seemed perfectly planned to take advantage of everything the Natron area has to offer (sunset cocktails on a volcano?!)

During our visit, Michel arranged for horse back riding for all of us, we visited with a number of local Masai (real Masai, not Masai in the tourism business), and we saw lots of wildlife of many different species (they were truly wild - not overly skittish and not overly zoo'ified either), thousands and thousands of flamingos, and even foot prints of early man. And one of the best things for us was that Michel knew everything we wanted to know about the animals, the birds, the plants, the weather, pretty much everything.

The volcanic landscape is unique and spectacular. In the summer, during our visit, it's dry dry dry, which has its own beauty, and I'm looking forward to going back after the rains, when everything is green again too. Thanks Michel, to you and your crew and camp - for everything!
