“Always An Enjoyable Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

Although the name of the lodge is called Samburu Simba Lodge, it is actually located in the Buffalo Springs Game Reserve. Samburu is the neighbouring game park. It must be for marketing proposes since Samburu is more widely known.

In previous years I had always stayed in Samburu but something tweaked me in 2008 to go and inspect a new lodge property in Buffalo Springs. The Simba Lodge at that time was still under construction.

Low and behold my annual lodge was severely damaged and permanently closed in 2009 due to a powerful flash river flood. When considering other lodges within the three adjacent game parks, the Simba Lodge was the best option.

Travelling north from Nairobi, the Simba Lodge is in a convenient location only 1/2 hour from the park entrance and guest will enjoy breathtaking views of the plains, river & distant mountains.

When sitting on your private balcony there is always a National Geographic picture unfolding in front of you.

The rooms are clean, large and maintained. The public areas are comfortable and also offer great views of the surrounding area. I always have found the staff to be attentive, polite, and friendly.

The restaurant offers a good variety during breakfast, lunch & dinner.

The lodge grounds are tidy and include an inviting infinity pool.... Hey, travellers come on now, don't expect a heated swimming pool..... Swimming pools generally in any country along the equator are only heated by the sun. On a hot day after a game drive a cooler pool is welcoming.

Be cautious of the hot water when showing.

There isn't any wifi at the lodge, and therefore one major suggestion I would have is for the Samburu Simba Lodge to "get with the times". Travellers would love to kick back and relax following and adventurous game drive and share their experiences with family & friends back home. Business people like myself would like the opportunity to touch base with the office.

The afternoon & evenings are quiet as the lodge does not offer any entertainment of any kind. I think all guests staying at this Simba lodge would greatly appreciate the addition of wifi.
(Also, so many hotels, airports etc around the world offer free wifi.... That might be an added plus for this Simba Lodge)

Come on Simba, it's 2014, even my 10 year old granddaughter is connected.......

Amazing views, rooms, service and excursions. Brilliant couple of nights to start off our safari. A prime spot for seeing elephants. The monkeys were also very entertaining, although I could imagine them being a problem over longer stays, as they seemed to have little fear of humans, and stole food from the tables. A brilliant range of food and desserts, with a pleasant ambience.

Stunning place to stay. Low season and personal brilliant service all the way. Magical cooling off in pool watching elephants do the same in the water hole.
Food delicious.
Well worth the drive from Nairobi.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to look over water hole. Upstairs are good for animal spotting

We had a really great time over New Year. Staff were attentive and the setting just stunning. Great game viewing and always good to return to Lodge. Infinity drop pool overlooking the bush. Peaceful. We'd love to go again.

A really enjoyable weekend. Would do it again in a minute. Lots of animals and trails. We drove our own vehicle so we were able to enjoy the wildlife at our own pace. Food was buffet style. The service and attention to detail was terrific.

I enjoyed how this lodge was tucked away in the reserve it is a very nice place to have a peice of mind and be on a real vacation, it is strategically placed for quality game drives, booked in by Affable tours and safaris, try the lodge while in Samburu, great Maasai community too.

Very well located for game drives round Samburu. Friendly staff. It was pretty quiet but we were given a downstairs room crawling with bugs, especially after we incautiously left the balcony doors ajar around dusk. After that there were hundreds of insects flying and crawling around, including the biggest beetle we've ever seen, at least 10cm long. That lot necessitated a good spray and we found we needed to put something under the front door to stop insects coming in when we were in the room with the lights on. The food was OK but not that varied. Bottles of Spanish wine were around GBP10 - cheaper than elsewhere. Good staff, nice pool. Weirdly, they turn their generator off from 10am to 6pm, making charging batteries difficult and an afternoon nap with the ceiling fan on an impossibility. No wifi.

Room Tip: Get one upstairs - should mean fewer insects
