was here in December 2011 during Christmas for 2 nights . lovely staff and the food was good. the little touches for the Christmas feel was good.rooms were good and spacy loved the view as well and good attention to detail.
safaris - the zebra and giraffes are different here compared to mara and other parks. u get to see herds of elephants.samburu has two parts to it of which you can got to both for your safaris. we dnt get to see any cats though some guests did.

overall really nice place

We spent 2 nights here in late September 2013 on a 19 day safari. There were very few people here - assuming this place is a hidden gem. No wi-fi made for a REAL vacation although, I like having the ability to connect. The staff could not have been kinder and more willing to ensure every need was met. Our room overlooked the savannah and the reserve, beds comfortable, showers perfect. My husband has a medical need to have electricity at night and they were more than accommodating to meet his needs [they turn off electricity at night]. We were particularly pleased with the food selections given the small number of people here during our stay. The boxed lunches for our full day safaris were excellent and much more than 1 person could eat! The open air dining was delightful as different wild life approached for any given meal. The gift shop was excellent - Josephine was more than helpful and prices were fixed and very good!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 19.

This was our first time in this property and we loved it. The rooms are very spacious with lots of space for everything. A nice balcony with loungers is perfect to gaze at the wildlife. The bathroom was very large , again with space for everything. The property itself is spacious with lots of comfortable seating areas for small group settings. The bar, lounge area easily flows into the restaurant areas. We had great bar service from Juliana. Her smile always welcomed us as we returned from game drives. Food was great and plentiful.

If you want a Getaway far away from the city with amazing wildlife around, this is the place to go. From the moment we got there the staff welcomed us well, carried our bags to the rooms and made sure that everything we needed was available. The rooms are lovely with amazing deco, big comfortable beds, amazing showers and each room has its own balcony that faces the wonderful wildlife. Monkeys would even come to 'visit' us so we were advised to leave our balcony doors closed when we are out of the room. One can even see elephants passing by while they are in the shower(it had clear windows), its as if they are watching you, it was so cool. Their buffet was exquisite, one would not worry as basically all types of dishes were available (but note that this was during Christmas, it was peak season then). I honestly think I gained a couple of calories while I was there. We also had entertainment at night during dinners which was so exciting as we would be entertained by Samburu cultural dancers. The game drives aced everything. Every morning at 6am and evening from 4pm we had games drives to see all kind of wildlife, the big 5, buffaloes, all diff types of antelopes, crocodiles at very close range, and name all other animals were all there. There was even a natural pond where one would go and swim it was adventurous. It was just a wonderful experience. The ambiance is quite relaxed and one will definitely enjoy their holiday. They have two pools and a nice bar near one of the pools, and the weather is amazing, hot most of the year. Words and photos cannot tell half the story of the holiday. It was amazing and I would go back any day.

Room Tip: A room upstairs as the view will be amazing from the balcony.

Our rooms here were the second best that we had in Kenya and they included a beautiful view of the savannah. The food was average, but the open air dinning room was excellent. One evening a giraffe paraded past and at other times elephants could be seen. Even a crocodile visited the adjacent pond. The one draw back is that the birds and the monkeys want to join you for meals.

Our one problem occurred at check-in. Our reservation had been misplaced, but even with available rooms we were not permitted to check-in or to go to the dinning room. After almost an hour of being patient it took a bit of a tantrum to make things happen.

Other service was great at the lodge and the Samburu National Park was fantastic for unique animals like the reticulated giraffe, the generuk, and the oryx. Really a spot not to be missed. And, do not miss the lodge's great swimming pool.

Being from Kenya by birth and residing in the states I was looking for a lodge that was close to nature and also offered amenities to keep my family and friends comfortable and relaxed. This lodge met my needs.
The pool is an infinity pool with view of the watering hole. So we could be swimming and watching elephants, giraffes etc walk to the watering hole. The lodge is centrally located and easy to get to. Saw a lot of game at the lodge and also on Game drives.
The staff was incredible Our wait staff was Mr Said and Miss Yvonne. They made sure we were comfortable and taken care off. When my son fell asleep early and missed Dinner they packed dinner for him and also packed lunch on the day we had a long game drive that included a samburu village visit. The receptionist was Ms Viona and she was great at check in and check out.
The rooms are very big and beds are very comfortable. The view from the room is incredible. The décor is stricktly Kenyan and local and beautiful. There is no AC but there is very powerful fans to circulate the air so it doesn’t get hot. They have mosquito nets and repellents.
Best thing of all is the variety of birds around the lodge. Incredible.
Cons:
as with anything in the bush there is no electricity from 10AM to 4PM. totally understandable considering they are running on generators. So charge your cameras and phones over night. Cell service is intermittent but when available you can get 3G I could upload pictures to facebook.
If you are from the states and love ice. There will be very cold drinks but ice is scarce during the day when there is no electricity.

Room Tip: Book rooms slose to the pool. the view is great.

We spent a night at the lodge and it was great. The rooms were great and each had a balcony that looked out to the savannah. We saw elephants while having our lunch and later that night we had crocodiles ventured out and we could see them from the dining area. This was our first visit to the lodge and Samburu area. The swimming pool is an easy place for the children to swim and they really enjoyed it.
During the game drive, we saw a lot of game but unfortunately we were not able to see any of the big cats.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the east side so you can see the rising sun.
