“Great host”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the lodge with two teens and two other couples. Plenty of room for everyone, warm, comfortable and definitely the smartest place we had stayed along the trail. A very welcome sight after a day of wet biking. Mark is a great host, taking the boys to buy beer and wine supplies. We wish we could have had two nights here. I will be recommending this to shebikeshebikes.

The lodge looked very good and clean and welcoming for any season. However we had to stay with the owners in their house as an overflow accommodation -rarely used by them apparently but the bedrooms were ok and reasonably clean as was the shared bathroom. The rest of the house would benefit from an exterior waterblast, window wash to appreciate the views and a surface clean inside . The owners cooked an evening meal and joined us in a good evening meal with plenty of interesting local information and a lively house dog who was around us but would have been kept outside if we had asked should we not have liked such a spritely dog! The owners were very personable and if you like a 'homestay' ambience this might appeal.

Room Tip: book well ahead for the lodge.

Hi AucklandBronwyn thank you for both staying with us and for taking the time to write a review, without reviews we are unable to improve both our product and service.

We take on board the need for the exterior to have a water blast and this has now been completed and the interior been given a good clean, unfortunately dust on the surface's both interior and exterior are a constant battle living beside a dusty shingle road, we will be more vigilant in monitoring this in the future.

With regards to your comment on staying in our house as "Over Flow Accommodation" we operate both Tussock Lodge and in the busy times a Home Stay option in our private house,. In your case the booking agent that you used had booked you directly into the Home Stay at our house and you most definitely weren't classed as "Over Flow" We are sorry for this confusion but it was out of our control.

We are aware that Spot the 2 1/2 year old Labradoodle is very lively and are more than happy to put her outside if she is becoming annoying or if we notice that the party are uncomfortable with her around.

We thank you again for your review and we look forward to having you stay with us gain at Tussock Lodge in Waipiata, Happy Travels... Mark and Nikki
