Dear Guest
All reviews are welcomed with gratitude, whether full of praise or with areas needing improvement. Your descriptive words of "super, wonderful, friendly, helpful, excellent" are no doubt most convincing to potential guests debating whether they should stay at Wolwedans and the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Thank you for your feedback and we wish you many happy returns.
Kind regards, Alison

This place is magical, it'll be the highlight of your stay in Namibia. In fact you ought to travel to Namibia just to visit Wolvedans. Don't let the price put you off, you're in for the experience of a lifetime and it's worth every cent!

Arriving @ Wilwendans is a unique experience. You leave your life with your car, some minutes far from your lodge.
The building is a mixture of luxury and a respect for the nature spirit.
There it's just you and the nature that is extraordinary and full of life.
People from the staff have a very familiar approach, punctual, flexible, lovable.
Trips are guided by super expert guides.
Food is incredibly delicious.
A real paradise. I strongly raccomand this corner of Paradise!

Visited in July 2012 with my family. On the plus side the food was excellent and the location was spectacular. However in winter, this lodge is only for the hardy. There is no heating in the rooms and the hot water was limited to 50 litres per person - simply inadequate. We are not the hardiest of travellers and maybe our travel agent missold this place but when it is cold, as it is as at night in winter, this lodge is an endurance. There is poor lighting and no power to the lodges and the bar and restaurant are open to the elements. Service was also not great - my sons room was not even made up on one night. We also felt that there were trying to scrimp on costs - turning off the lights and reducing the patio heaters or failing to light the bomb. The nature drives aren't great and ultimately I'd say that ther are better places to visit in Namibia.

Management response:Responded July 11, 2012

Dear Guest
Thank you for feedback and your detailed concerns. Yes, the Namib Desert is cold in winter, and our tented Lodge is powered by solar, thus the absence of air conditioning - we are also too remote to connect to the power grid, and our eco credentials are such that we only utilize a noisy generator at our base camp, to keep reception and our laundry operational. Our webpage confirms that we strive to set an example in eco-friendly and sustainable tourism, thus designing our camps to minimize environmental impact by exploring innovative building techniques and utilizing sustainable technologies.
We apologize for the service deficiencies you noted, as these should have been noticed and rectified by our management and supervisory team - please be assured that they are being investigated by our Operations manager, and will be corrected for future guests. We also have a new intake of 20 hospitality trainees, doing their in-service training at Wolwedans (as part of our Foundation's community committment), and that could account for a few imperfect moments, however we would never use this as an excuse. May I also say that the NamibRand Nature Reserve has only recently been awarded a conservation accolade, as Africa's first International Dark Sky Reserve - all concessionaires located on the Reserve have played their part, by moderating their light emissions during evenings.
We appreciate your frankness that our destination did not "tick all your boxes", however hope that the good memories of Wolwedans, our team and the picturesque Nature Reserve, far exceed the not-so-good ones. Our endeavours to delight each and every guest will continue, and your valuable feedback will be utilised in this effort.
Kind regards, Alison
