First time visiting this well presented establishment. It's a lovely place to visit and the food was really good.

However... The service was incredibly poor. No one asked us how the meal was. We had to use the bar to order anything, when attempting to catch a waitresses attention we was ignored. Coffees where forgotten about, then when they did eventually come out they where cold. Half of our desserts where also forgotten about then we had to go up to the bar to ask for a cutlery with the desserts.

To us it looked as if there is little to no management down there. The staff were very polite but that was it. This is a real shame and disappointment as the food was lovely. The kitchen staff deserve better!

Great looking establishment from the road, well presented gardens, car park and main room including the loos, thoughtful touches with the help yourself reading glasses. Genuine welcome, accommodated us at the bar for a late lunch. Food choice and selection fine, not awesome or amazing (it's pub grub!) but it hit the spot, served in a timely and helpful manner, sensibly priced, decent espresso and a pint of Harveys.

Exactly how it should be.

After a day out we stopped off for a meal here, phoning ahead to book a table. We had prompt service and a very nice meal, if not quite amazing, but that's nit-picking. Only one vegetarian choice was a disappintment though. Price was reasonable for what we had and we'd certainly consider returning. Aspalls on draught was a very pleasant surprise.

We ate here with friends at just before Christmas and were seated in the inside/older part of the building (it has a conservatory added), the older part has a warmer atmosphere, with tables spaciously spread out, however it can get higher footfall (obviously) with people going into the conservatory.

The meal we had in December was good and, great idea by NC&G, we were given vouchers in sealed envelopes to return in the new year - still sealed, to be opened when paying the bill to discover whether 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% would be knocked off the food element of the bill. Thereby being encouraged to return in probably the quietest months of the year (Jan / Feb).

We arranged to meet mid week (cos that was when the offer ran), with our friends, had a great time in the bar catching up, and browsing the menu, our waitress was also serving at the bar and she was fabulous, welcoming, friendly but not overly so, happy to "wait" on us.... ready when we were and not at all pushy, she "read" us so well. When our starters were ready she led us through and got us all seated. Starters fabulous, thoroughly recommend the scallops!

Several of us had the pie, disappointment looked like a steamed pudding which didn't contain much filling, sad because it appeared on the menu to be home made, and I may be wrong but didn't appear to have the quality of home made and certainly not a nice crisp short crust or rough puff topping which would have been expected. I had the belly of pork which was an excellent choice, nice crisp crackling, with soft succulent slow cooked meat.

As we had fish starters / meat and fish mains, some of us had red wine by the glass, while others opted for white wine (by the bottle ..... gosh the white wine drinkers get through it !!!!) ha ha ......

Deserts were served fabulous, fabulous ..... it being mid week and the evening getting on we declined coffee and got the bill, did the business with the voucher left a decent tip for our wonderful waitress and no doubt the chef behind the scenes.

We were still laughing and chatting just winding down the evening when sadly another waitress started to clear, very helpfully, but why, she hadn't been near us all evening? When people have paid and are chatting they will only be another five, perhaps ten minutes or so and it wasn't even closing time. Ok she asked if we would like some debris taken away but then to have conversation interrupted with can I take this, and lifting the wine bottle from the cooler, which still had wine in "have you finished with this", this only gives the message get out the door, I want to clear. If tables are going to be cleared then honour your guests and do it discretely and DON'T interrupt conversation.

Had it been the waitress which served us that would have been slightly different as she had served us, however our waitress read us completely right and left us to finish an excellent evening; we had had lovely time with friends any debris was an accolade to good appetites for food and wine and we were comfortable for that. Sadly to have someone who hadn't served us start to clear away it was a big NO, NO, it smacked of the American culture, sweet when you walk in the door, can't do enough for you, you pay the bill, leave the tip and the charm freezes in its tracks..... a slippery slope!

We may return at some point with our friends but clear the table? no its mine until I choose to leave it!

I hasten to add, generally the staff are brilliant, know their menu, happy and willing to serve, attentive to the needs of their guests and if their guests are happy, will leave them to enjoy. Hopefully just a one-off by a tired member of staff.
