This is my 2nd review for the Nevill crest and gun,my first was a much better review than this one...
I went with family for a Christmas meal. The first problem encountered was the barman didn't know there was a christmas menu and had to ask the manager.
Our orders were taken and a little while later a desert arrived(we hadn't even had our mains at this point)
Our meals were served and at best could be described as below average. The sprouts were frozen, not fresh the turkey was from a turkey roll and not a turkey. The roast potatoes were possibly the worst i've had, tough chewy skins and flavourless centre, the potatoes are better in the shoppers cafe in the local Morrisons!
One of our party had fish and chips, the chips were undercooked.
We were presented with desert menus, which were followed by another desert being delivered to the table without being ordered...
We then sat for 20 minutes until we asked if we could order desert, the orders were taken and the deserts arrived promptly.
On the whole the deserts were ok except that the bake well tart had been in the microwave for to long and there was a skin on the custard. One of the deserts was also wrong.
(The incorrect desert and one of the mains was taken of off the final bill)
On the whole a very disappointing experience, for a pub that claims to cook real food it was way below the standard I expected, the service was also below par.
I won't be returning but i'm sure the management and staff won't lose any sleep over that fact but my money is hard earned and will go in future to somewhere with better standards on food and customer service.
