“Fun drive”

We stayed in Winterset while visiting my sister in-law and decided to drive around and see the covered bridges. I have 4 children, ages 9,8,6 and 3. They enjoyed seeing the bridges as well. I would have to look back through my pictures to see which bridge was which one, but if you go to the bridge at the city park, you can take a drive to a tower. It is really cool! My kids loved it!
I will have to come back and add pictures!

This historic, covered bridge featured in the movie "Bridges of Madison County" but is only one of 6 in area - visit them all!

“Bridges of Madison County”

First I have to say that I've not read the book or seen the movie. We were here for John Wayne's birthplace and stopped at most of the bridges. Some of them have been moved and are no longer over water, which takes away from the experience some. All seem to be in good shape. It's interesting to see the differences in the construction of the bridges even though from the outside they look pretty much alike. Be aware that they are on gravel roads so it's going to be very dusty.

“Movie fans will like”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2012

If you're a movie fan or just love covererd bridges--it's worth the drive. Winterset, IA is 30 min off I-80 and it takes a bit of driving on gravel roads to get to the two covered bridges from the movie. (If it has been raining, expect your car to be dirty when you leave!) You cannot cross the bridges with your car. They are both lovely to see--very peaceful in the country. Drive back into the town and see the Northside Diner and stone arch bridge.

“Long drive but worth it if you saw the movie”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2012

The Roseman Bridge is one of 6 covered bridges near Winterset, Iowa and the bridge featured in the movie 'The Bridges of Madison County'. Like all but one of the covered bridges in Madison County, the bridge is closed to vehicular traffic. It's way out in the country and down several miles of dirt roads, but very pretty. The weeds around the bridge were quite high and my friend and myself scratched our legs pretty good trying to get good angles to take photos of the bridge. The entire town of Winterset is a picture postcard and is also the birthplace of John Wayne. We also located and photographed Francesca's house, which is not near any of the covered bridges.
