Amherst Shore Country Inn
Ranked #1 of 2 Lorneville B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 24, 2011

The Inn was lovely. Airy, clean, rooms and guest chalets all well equipped and comfortable. The view was an ocean view over a green expanse of lawns and gardens. The food was fresh from the garden and delicious. Overall -a treat. We will be back.

Room Tip: The chalets are lovely and serene and the cottages are quaint and neat.

My husband and I found ASCI over 20 years ago on our first trip to the East Coast. We enjoyed our stay so much that we intentionally stayed again before heading back to Ontario on that trip. We have been back every year since -- we love the location, the hosts, and the food is fantastic! Although the Inn isn't located in a town, that's another bonus in our opinion. We love the serenity, view of the water, and the hospitality. The drive to Amherst, Oxford, and Pugwash, for example, is just another opportunity to experience the roads and lifestyle of the East Coast without being on a highway that typically avoids special scenery so as to fast-track you to your destination. The Inn has undergone numerous upgrades since our first stay when the only rooms were in the Inn with no phone and the TV was only connected to an antenna. But we didn't care -- we were there for the ambience, friendly welcome, and conversation became a necessity because there wasn't any electronic distractions. What a concept -- face-to-face communication! Now 20+ years later, ASCI has it all -- phones, flat screen TVs, satellite, internet, air conditioning, fireplaces (in suites) -- but what hasn't changed is the warm welcome, hospitality, service, food, water view, and the desire to continue our yearly visits! Can't wait to go back!

Nice venue with very big backyard and private beach. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was a nice surprise. The room was spacious en clean, and the bathroom had a whirlpool. Dining at the inn means great views of the garden and sea. Dinner itself was very good. This was also the case with breakfast: served to the table. An unexpected nice stay.

We stayed here for one night and went walking along the water. This inn looks tired from the outside and it is tired on the inside. Don't let that stop you. It is just the decor that needs work. We had a suite cabin and it was quite nice. The rooms at the inn are pretty small and rustic. The suites are where you would want to stay. The bathrooms are very small and basic. However, the food is absolutely wonderful. The supper was delicious and very nicely served. We had cocktails in the parlour sitting on victorian couches and chairs. Very, very nice. The breakfast was magnificient. We enjoyed everything. I just wish it was not so faded and 1990 looking. The hosts are absolutely marvelous and always at your disposal if you need help. I really would return there.

We were taken aback at the accommodation quality of the Amherst Shore Inn after reading the reviews. The distance from Amherst itself made it a less than convenient location to use when visiting Amherst. The 1960's decor of the main Inn rooms were less than impressive (unless you enjoy pink frills) with nothing that could accommodate all our children adequately. However, if you are eating at the Amherst Shore you will not be disappointed. Dinners are great and breakfasts equally as good.

The inn is very welcoming, with comfortable rooms and the dinners are amazing. Wine list is good too. A nice surprise were all the fossils on the little beach, although they are actually from the fill brought in from other Nova Scotia locations.
